Ranging from engaging in the delivery of technical training, creating training content, and managing training organizations across multiple countries, the team has worked and engaged in every facet of technology training, content production, and assessment. During its growth, they have managed multiple successful training delivery companies, pioneered new and innovative ways to build and deliver training, worked heavily in the assessment and testing industry, and managed some of the world’s largest training delivery programs by the world’s leading software companies. Technical Learning Specialist We are seeking a Technical Learning Specialist to become an integral part of our team! The Technical Learning Specialist as a key member of the Learn on Demand Systems (LODS) Products group, will be responsible for developing, socializing, documenting, and templatizing various standards for how we create our Challenge Labs product line. “Challenge Labs” are a portfolio of scored hands-on learning experiences that help people develop new skills by asking them to perform a set of tasks, then “scoring” them based on the outcomes of their performance. This role will create standards for how we guide Lab Developers to (1) craft technical instructions that challenge learners to “learn by doing” and (2) devise ways of helping them think about outcome-driven learning experiences vs. procedural lab exercises. Learn on Demand Systems is a virtual company which engages in productive remote co-working sessions from time to time in different locations around the USA. You will be expected to be a member of a highly talented and productive team, maintain a high degree of output, and focus with minimal daily supervision, working on tasks assigned, while enjoying the benefits of a work from home organization. Reporting Structure The Technical Learning Specialist is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Product Manager. Essential Functions The duties of this role fall into the following broad areas: 1) Create, templatize, train, and enforce standards for lab development based on challenge-centric learning, resulting in 90% of deliverables meeting standards and timelines. a. Maintain a style guide that documents standards for writing challenge-centric instructions. b. Lead the initiative to maintain a consistent writing style across the entire catalog of challenge Lab products. c. Devise accessible methods to help Lab Authors shift from a procedural, “step-by-step” instructions mindset to a “go do this” model. d. Develop and document standards for scoring learning activities based on the “results of what they did” vs. standard assessment. e. Determine standards and templates for how and when standard assessment methods are acceptable. 2) Enable Lab Authors to understand and create Challenge Labs based on challenge-centric learning in ways that decrease our Time to Market (TTM). a. Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs. b. State instructional end goals and ensure created content matches them. c. Contribute to decisions on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance based on the results of what they did; develop assessment within a challenge-centric learning model. d. Provide recommendations and create templates for exercises and activities that enhance the learning process. e. Maintain project documentation and course folders. 3) Own the technical writing components of the Challenge Lab QA and publishing process. a. Lead the process of fleshing out and documenting a scalable QA process in coordination with your manager, the Lab Architect and Senior Project Manager. b. Continually refine the QA and final publishing processes by engaging and leading appropriate teams or team members in streamlining the overall workflow and reducing Time to Market (TTM). c. Establish best practices for our “lab building engine” processes in coordination with your manager, the Lab Architect and Senior Project Manager, and devise methods to share these best practices with -- and learn from -- other teams, such as LODS Professional Services Lab Developers. d. Maintain meticulous updates of key documentation related to writing standards and editing practices. e. Represent the Products Group and the Challenge Labs product with other departments, customers, and prospects. Job Duties & Responsibilities Challenge Labs are a very strategic product for LODS. The Products Group will be forging new ways for our platform to function based on the engine we build and what we learn along the way. This leader will have a key role in sharing new Best Practices across the organization. Qualifications This is a new role with key responsibilities related to the overall quality and effectiveness of our product catalog. The following qualifications are essential to the success of individuals considering the role. · Experience in the IT training industry and deep understanding of technical content development and Instructional Design. · Belief in and solid understanding of outcome-based adult learning methodologies, such as “Learn by Doing,” scenario-based learning, experiential learning, and desirable difficulties. · Exceptional technical writing skills. Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and/or courseware, especially “train- the-trainer” types of content. · Exceptional technical editing skills. Experience as a technical editor and copy editor. Certification or accreditation as an editor preferred, but not required. · Extremely detail-oriented with understanding of how good documentation and training proactively simplify the overall quality and Quality Assurance (QA) process. · Desire to work at an exceedingly fast pace. · Proven ability to contribute to concurrent workflows/projects within a matrixed environment. · Working knowledge of technical terminology and ability to quickly become “conversationally competent” with a wide variety of cloud, data, AppDev, IT, and security terms. · Minimum three (3) years of technical writing, technical editing, and/or technical content QA experience. Technical editing within an Instructional Design and/or curriculum development context especially desired. Bachelors’ degree in related field preferred, but not required. · Knowledge of or experience working with markdown, HTML, and automation tools (GitHub) an advantage. Physical Demands 1. Ability to frequently remain in a stationary position. 2. Ability to frequently communicate and exchange accurate information. 3. Ability to constantly operate equipment such as telephone, computers, etc. 4. Ability to move equipment, in excess of 5 lbs.
