A Day in the Life of an Arts Teacher . . .
Our Arts Teacher will provide visual arts services/experiences to Laradon School Students (individual and/or group format depending on student needs) to address behavioral, social/emotional, psychological, communicative, physical, sensory-motor, and cognitive functioning.
How you will make a difference . . .
+ Create an optimum learning/therapeutic environment that supports creative expression for all students
+ Provide arts consultation and support to classroom staff
+ Participate in the case management process, as needed
+ Prepare lesson plans that correlate to the IEP goals and specific classroom learning
+ Develop appropriate curriculum and corresponding lesson plans with great flexibility and autonomy for students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs
+ Support stage design for student performances
+ Develop and facilitate student learning in art, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and crafts
+ Knowledge of behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques including physical management and positive reinforcement
+ Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to celebrate student work for the school and community
+ Research and requisition instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required arts inventory

What you need to know ...
+ Environment : We have a total of 10 classrooms with no more than 8 students with most staff to student ratios of 1 to 1
+ Compensation: Starting salary at $50k for New Grad/One Year Exp); commensurate with education (Bachelor's or Master's) and experience (years teaching in the classroom). Salary is based on a scale relative to experience.
+ Safety Care: All school employees are required to provide physical behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire); may be subject to extensive aggressive and non-compliant behavior from special needs students
+ Pre-Employment: Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check
+ 100% In Classroom Learning: As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative and team environment, our school employees must be physically present in the office to perform different job functions. Additionally, as a service provider, our instructional methods under our services model require the work to be performed on campus.
+ Calendar: The Laradon School year is Aug - May and Extended School Year "ESY" June - Aug. There are 175 student contact days. Please see https://www.laradon.org/program-calendars.html

What we're looking for from you ...
+ Superstar communicator - Able to communicate and listen well with students, staff, parents and the community
+ Passion - Experience working with students with developmental disabilities and/or emotional/behavioral disorders
+ Brains - Minimum of a BA/BS in Education, current Colorado Teaching Certification with Special Education Generalist and Elementary Education endorsement or ability to enter an Alternative License program or apply for a Special Education Temporary Authorization (SETA)
+ Influencer - Two years teaching experience preferred
+ Mindset - Positive, resilient and 'can do' attitude
+ Super strength - Able to exert/lift up to 50 pounds of force
