Medical Assistant

 

Job Description:  The medical assistant serves to assist the nursing department and providers with patient-specific organization within a clinic setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Gather patients to see the provider in a timely manner.

·         Prepare patient to see provider, obtain vital signs, labs as directed by provider.

·         Upload medical records and maintain electronic charts.

·         Schedule MD appointments.

·         Contact pharmacies to verify medications and/or call in prescriptions upon patient discharge.

·         Ensure all tasks are completed for discharge process as it relates to medical department.

·         Ensure proper medications arrive as ordered from pharmacy.

·         Complete other tasks as requested by DON and providers.

 

Intellectual

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

Interpersonal

·         Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of organization.

·         Ability to communicate effectively and relate to people.

·         Ability to effectively communicate to patients, nursing staff, and providers.

 

Leadership

·         Maintaining a positive and upbeat attitude.

·         Appropriate sense of humor

 

Organization

·         Ability to maintain an organized work area.

·         Organize and correctly file paperwork, particularly patent records.

 

Self-Management

·         Ability to handle a variety of delegated tasks with short notice.

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

 

Education, Experience, and Training

·         High School Diploma or equivalent

·         Minimum 2 years prior medical assisting experience

·         Microsoft Office

·         Personal passion or interest in substance abuse issues strongly preferred

·         Must be committed to drug-free lifestyle and responsible alcohol use

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

·         Formal medical assisting training completion

 

Computer Skills

·         Competency with Microsoft Office Suite.  Comfortable working with electronic health records.

·         The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

·         Staff may enter and exit work area and employee will be expected to stay on task.

 

Shift available:

·         Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-3pm, part time status.  Digital Way, Indianapolis location.
