Housekeeping Standard Guidelines

For all check-outs:

  • The Room Inspection Checklist must be completed and turned in to the Front Desk or Housekeeping Supervisor for all rooms that are designated as a “check-out” on the Housekeeping Daily Sheet.
  • Rooms must be cleaned by following the inspection checklists, as it describes exactly what should be done for each room.
  • All linens and mattress encasement's should be inventoried and reported to the Front Desk for any missing

Basic Information:

  • When making beds, if the room has two beds, the color of sheets/pillowcases and the type of bedspread must be the same on each bed. The bedspread does not get tucked in at the corners, the bottom of the spread should hand no more than two inches off the floor, and the sides must hang evenly on both sides of the bed. The spread should be smoothed out when done so that there are no ripples or winkles and it does not appear to be sloppy or slept in.
  • When vacuuming floors, Move the tables, chairs, and vacuum under them. Do not sweep carpet this destroys the nap in the carpet and pushes the sand deeper where it will not come up.
  • Look under the beds! During inspections, there have been numerous items found under beds that clearly show that no one bothered to get down on their knees and even look, much less clean under the beds. Trash, dirty clothes, shoes, empty beer bottles, and even drug paraphernalia has been found.
  • When cleaning rooms, make sure you look inside all drawers, cabinets, nightstands, cupboards, refrigerators, microwaves, and anything else that can hold items or trash. All shelves and drawers need to be dry-wiped) and if they are excessively soiled. (Spray and wipe them).
  • All surfaces (bathroom counters, toilet, toilet tank under the toilet seat, inside and outside the tub, dressers, nightstands, stove tops, etc.) should be sprayed and wiped. Do not dry wipe these surfaces. Mirrors should be streak-free. Use paper towels if necessary. Do not clean with dirty towels
  • There should never be any visible hairs on any surface of a room or in the bathroom. This is unsanitary and disgusting and can cause a guest to wonder if the room has even been cleaned at all.
  • Curtains should be opened at least halfway after the room has been cleaned to show that it is unoccupied, and tracks must be cleaned if able (this is for general and security purposes).
  • If the room needs any maintenance or anything is missing, broken, or otherwise needs attention, write it down on the Housekeeping Daily Sheet for that room, or note it on the room Inspections Checklists. Do not come to the Front Desk or Housekeeping Supervisor every time you clean or check a room to inform them of what the room needs or what is wrong with it. This wastes time and causes you to take longer than necessary to compete you daily tasks.
  • Failure to adhere to the inspection checklist and perform your duties at a satisfactory level can and will result in your dismissal from employment without warning or notice. Rooms are inspected daily for cleanliness.
  • Make sure if all rooms are cleaned there are always outside windows, doorways, walkways, stairwells, outside furniture and ashtrays to clean. No inside furniture is allowed outside.
  • Housekeepers are always not allowed to belittle the motel or other workers while on the clock and be professional.
  • Housekeepers so not walk to laundry or supplies. Laundry Technician is to go to bring supplies and linen to housekeeper.

Laundry Technician Job Description

  • You must be responsible to show up for work when scheduled.
  • Wash all linen properly using proper chemicals.
  • Keep laundry clean and all equipment cleaned and working properly. * Do not fill washing machines and dryers more than half way full.
  • Clean lint filters inside and outside daily.
  • Inspect all machines for maintenance problems daily including leaks etc.
  • Nothing is to be washed or dryer in these machines other than motel property and no one should wash or dry their personal laundry items in laundry. Expectations must be approved by owner.
  • Laundry room must always be kept in an orderly fashion along with the guest laundry.
  • All new linens are to be marked by what size they are… example K for king, Q for queen, F for full and T for twin. Also needs to be marked fitted or flat sheet.
  • All equipment with problems must be reported to management daily.
  • Must be able to be a runner and carry supplies or linen to housekeepers when needed. Do not spend needless time traveling back and forth to laundry.
  • Must keep cleaning rags and wash cloths separately.
  • Must have the capacity to remove stains and not create bleach spots on linen.
  • Must dilute all bleach and cleaning products before filling bottles and/or pouring bleach washer.
  • Must have good hygiene and dressed properly.
  • Must maintain front of laundry, no vacuums or equipment should be left in front of laundry room.
  • Must never have any body in laundry that is not an employee that has an legitimate reason for being in Laundry.
  • Carts need to be set up the night before each shift.
  • Need to know the inventory on each cart.
  • Make sure all supplies and equipment are turned in at the end of the day, this includes the vacuums which must be cleaned at the end of each day.
  • Head Housekeeper
  • Designate what room housekeepers clean.
  • Maintain inventory in laundry room.
  • Make sure laundry room is clean.
  • Inspections daily after housekeepers.
  • Make sure that the laundry room is locked up at the end of the day.
  • See that all housekeepers are doing their job and not wasting time else where and not smoking in their rooms if they live on property.
