Calvary Bible Church (plainfieldbible.org) is prayerfully seeking full-time Senior Pastor.
Requirements
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Pastor along with the Elders will provide leadership to the church by the example of the pursuit of a Godly life. He and his fellow Elders will use the Scriptures to bring direction to the church with careful instruction in sound doctrine for the glory to Jesus Christ.
SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Pastor will have the primary responsibility of expository preaching. He will provide leadership with the elders and pastoral staff in guarding the doctrine of the church from error and helping each person to grow to spiritual maturity. He will be willing and able to provide Biblical counseling and comfort to those who are members of his congregation.
PASTOR'S PROFILE
He must exhibit a love for God, His Word and His people. He will demonstrate this with clear and timely exegetical and expositional teaching of God's Word with application. He must be caring and gracious as he deals with others. This requires spiritual and moral courage by protecting the church from false doctrine. He must model love, care and leadership of his family.
THE BASICS
1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9
The qualifications of an Elder/Pastor/Shepherd are clearly outlined in God's Word which emphasizes the importance of humility, servant leadership, pastoral care, and spiritual maturity that are exhibited both inside and outside of his home. He must be:
• "Above reproach" - No obvious moral flaw in his character or conduct that is habitual and disqualifying.
• "Husband of one wife" - A married man who shows a healthy love, respect, admiration and affection for his wife.
• "Temperate" - Clear-headed and well-balanced man with a passion for life and living it for the Glory of the Lord.
• "Prudent" - one who is self-controlled and has common sense who is able to make wise discerning decisions based on the God's Word
• "Respectable" - dignified, of good behavior, considerate of others
• "Hospitable" - is gracious to others, both in the home and outside of the home.
• "Able to teach" - has the spiritual gift of a pastor/teacher and is qualified and competent to explain and apply the Scripture to the daily life of the Believer.
• "Not addicted to wine" - avoids drunkenness & excessive use of alcohol.
• "Not pugnacious" - Not violent, not a striker, able to settle arguments without fighting, and willing to resolve disputes quickly.
• "Gentle" - to be patient and forbearing
• "Uncontentious" - not one who is constantly quarrelsome and unable to get along with people who may not share his opinion.
• "Free from the love of money" - content, and responsible with finances
• "Manages his own household well" - gracious leadership of his family, whose children are under control and respectful.
• "Not a new convert" - not new or immature in the Faith.
• "A good reputation outside the church" - A Godly testimony with unbelievers.
IMPORTANT DETAILS AND SUPPORTING QUALIFICATIONS
• Meets biblical qualifications of an Elder as outlined above. [Confirmed by others who know and observed him.]
• Master of Divinity degree.
• Ministry experience in local church leadership.
• Passion for expository preaching with confirmed giftedness as an expositor.
• Committed to the doctrines of sufficiency of the Scriptures and the church's role in biblical counseling.
• Holds to the doctrines of grace.
• Premillennial in eschatology.
• Reputation of authentic humility as a leader. (Philippians 2:5-8)
• History of ability in discipling others. (II Timothy 2:2)
• Committed to Elder Rule church polity. (I Timothy 5:17; Titus 1:5)
• Willingness to lovingly confront others. (I Thessalonians 5:14)
• Ability to oversee and administrate in a gracious manner.
• Understands and committed to shepherd leadership. (I Peter 5:2-3)
• Approachable and receptive to admonition or rebuke. (Proverbs 15:31)
• Willingness and desire for regular evaluation from others.
• Committed to church discipline when required. (Matthew 18:15-17)
• Proficient in the common forms of the technology needed in ministry.
• Ability and desire to engage with all age groups
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Pastor shall serve as follows:
1. A focus on the general welfare and shepherding of the church body which includes the evaluation of the spiritual needs of the congregation.
2. Be primarily responsible for the preaching and teaching of the Word of God during Sunday morning services and other occasions.
3. Work in coordination with the worship team to ensure all public worship glorifies God. This would involve long range service planning and scheduling.
4. In conjunction with his fellow Elders, identify needs of the church, and plan for new ministries as needed.
5. Lead, disciple and guide the pastoral staff. Develop a team mentality and encourage proper relationships.
6. Provide oversight of weddings, funerals, and other special occasions.
7. Provide Biblical counseling to members of the congregation (e.g., premarital, personal, marital) by being certified through ACBC in Lafayette, IN.
8. Be involved in the oversight of the areas of ministry provided to the church body, e.g., hospital visitation, outreach, follow-up of visitors, etc.
