The Big Picture

Messiah Church of York is seeking a Lead Pastor to shepherd our congregation as we trust Him and step out in faith, keeping our eyes on our Lord and Savior.

The Church

Messiah Church of York is a newly independent, evangelical church tracing its roots back to the late 1800s and the York Fifth United Brethren Church. It was under the UB umbrella that the current facility was constructed and opened in 1959. After the formation of the United Methodist Church in 1968, the name was changed from Fifth to Messiah. The church has seen many generations since it first started and has been a beacon on the hill in North York Borough, York, Pennsylvania for many years. The church is active in the community through relationships with a local elementary school, summer kids camp and more. We have partnered with the borough and another nearby church for family activities and with the Lebanon Cemetery board of directors to assist in the revitalization of a historic African American cemetery that borders our property. Our current mission statement is "To KNOW Christ, to GROW in Christ and to SHOW Christ '' and we are excited to see God working in the people of the church as we strive to live out this mission. Now as Messiah Church of York, we are praying that God will lead the right candidate to us to shepherd our congregation as we trust Him and step out in faith, keeping our eyes on our Lord and Savior.

Requirements

Experience

We are looking for a Pastor who possesses the following requirements:
• 5+ years of proven ministry experience and church growth
• Bible College or Seminary Training, degree preferred
• Public speaking proficiency with an ability to connect faith to life in energetic, heart-felt

weekly sermons.
• Possess a God given passion for church renewal and community outreach.
• Has received and accepted a calling from God to this unique ministry and is committed

to Jesus Christ and the authority of the Scripture.
• Has the skills and discernment to counsel and guide church members through life

challenges using a biblical foundation
• Has a heartfelt burden for lost people and a desire to lead a church that is effectively

reaching its community while modeling a lifestyle of evangelism through building

relationships with people who are far from God.
• The pastor should demonstrate high moral character, integrity and adhere to scripture.
• Religious perspective aligning with current Wesleyan traditions and theology including a

traditional view of marriage as between one man and one woman.

Responsibilities
• Serve as preaching and teaching pastor
• Plan and lead Sunday worship services (one service) and mid-week bible studies
• Lead the ordinances of Baptism and Communion
• Officiate weddings and funerals as requested
• Visit home bound members
• Provide biblical-based spiritual counseling
• Disciple and grow the local body
• Encourage, support, and assist with local community outreach
• Serve with administrative council to manage the church; support, guide and train lay leadership; create mutual accountability; oversee programs of the church; and goal setting, planning and evaluation.

Job Details
Salary: from $55,000 a year depending on experience and with parsonage; without parsonage, negotiable housing allowance or higher salary

Parsonage: 4BR, 2-1/2 BA, adjacent to church
