RENO AND LAS VEGAS POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Summary:

Seeking to fill Right of Way Agent position that specializes in right of way acquisitions in the electric and natural gas utility industry (provides electricity in southern Nevada, and electricity and natural gas in northern Nevada).

Applicant MUST provide a current resume demonstrating project and work product examples.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders under supervision of right of way staff to:

  • Perform prior rights research for assigned projects, including working with the survey department to prepare prior rights exhibits, if necessary.
  • Monitor project deliverables and progress through ongoing communication with internal stakeholders to ensure assigned projects are completed on schedule.
  • Communicate project status, issues and risks to internal stakeholders and develop plans and make recommendations to clear obstacles when needed.
  • With supervised direction, prepare and submit applications for local/state/federal agencies for assigned projects. Track the progress of all applications to ensure land rights are obtained within the required project timeframe.
  • With supervised direction, acquire of rights of entry, easements, or rights of way for assigned projects.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate and departmental guidelines.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Education, Skill, and Environment

Minimum of four (4) years experience as a right of way agent/specialist in the utility industry or an equivalent combination of six (6) years of related experience, education and training in acquisition, land law, permitting, title research, and negotiation techniques. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business and/or Law along with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.

Must be able to demonstrated knowledge and experience of:

  • Researching prior land rights.
  • Interpreting legal/land descriptions of real property and easements.
  • Preparing documents to obtain land rights.
  • Effectively negotiating land rights and easements.
  • Local, state and federal agency permitting (IE: City and County governments, State land departments, Bureau of Land Management, United States Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc.).
  • Interpreting electric transmission and distribution designs. Interpreting natural gas designs is beneficial though but only comprises a small portion of right of way work in northern Nevada.
  • Interpreting road improvement plans.
  • Familiarity with basic contract and related laws.
