$1,000 Sign-on Bonus: $250 at time of hire, $250 after 90 calendar days from hire & $500 at One-Year Anniversary

  • Requires a BS degree preferably in chemistry but will accept a B.S. in science which included chemistry courses & lab experience; excellent written and oral communication skills; good computer skills for statistical & data analysis; excellent color perception and the ability to use analytical chemistry glassware and laboratory instrumentation, such as spectrophotometers, colorimeters, pH meters, conductivity meters etc.
  • In addition, this person must be able to work both independently and with a team, be able to transport up to 40 lbs. and wear a chemical respirator.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The QC Floater is responsible for filling in QC vacancies in the production of tablets, test strips and reagents as needed.
  • When not acting as a QC floater, this person will use their analytical chemistry knowledge & skills to troubleshoot and problem solve QC production issues, evaluate & resolve customer complaints, test incoming raw materials, maintain QC standards & pipette calibration program, and work on special projects as assigned.
  • This position will directly report to the QA/QC Manager and will ultimately be accountable to the Vice President of Research & Development.



  1. Tests tablet pre-mix and determines whether pH is within specification. Tests pre-mix of other formulations for unity and strength when appropriate.
  2. Conducts performance and physical attribute testing on testab bulk, unstripped tablets and final stripped tablets.
  3. Tests reagent powders. This requires the use of colorimeters and wet chemistry tests.
  4. Records QC test in the LIMS database.
  5. Tests incoming raw materials used in Testab production.
  6. Investigates customer complaints pertaining to Testab products.

Test Strips

  1. Conducts testing at all stages of Instatest Production. This includes raw material approval, in-process approvals and final release of test strips to the bottling stage.
  2. Responsible for the daily/monthly maintenance of pool vats used for test strip testing.
  3. Investigates customer complaints pertaining to Instatest products.

Reagents and Powders

  1. Conducts QC testing on all liquid reagents and powders.
  2. Provides adjustments to reagent and powder prep technicians.
  3. Conducts QC testing on incoming raw materials including chemicals and apparatus.
  4. Prepares and tests “QC Make” reagents.
  5. Responsible for preparing standard stock solutions used by QC.
  6. Responsible for preparing standards for the meter department.
  7. Assists in the clean-up of hazardous material spills.
  8. Responsible for hazardous waste disposal.
  9. Assists with refilling solvent bottles used in the lab from drums located in the solvent shed.


  1. Maintains QC standards.
  2. Maintains pipette calibration program.
  3. When time permits, assists QA/QC Manager and QA/QC Analyst with:
    1. Troubleshooting and problem solving QC production issues.
    2. Evaluating and resolving customer complaints.
    3. Testing incoming raw materials.
    4. Working on special projects as assigned.


  1. Participates in lean activities, including but not limited to
    1. Lean training and lean events such as kaizen or a 5-day event.
    2. 5-S program in the various departments assigned.
    3. DMAICs. Continuously looks for ways to improve both departments’ and own individual efficiencies and time management, as well as ways to improve any aspect of the Company’s operations, and develops and implements DMAICs accordingly.
  2. Notifies Manager of any department issues, safety issues, personnel problems, etc. and cooperates in resolving such matters as well. For example, requests assistance when impediments prevent the efficient performance of duties or when management intervention is needed.
  3. Provides Manager with feedback to determine where additional training would benefit, and obtains additional training as necessary.
  4. Complies with all Company policies (i.e. personnel, safety, etc.).
  5. Performs other duties as assigned. (Such duties may or may not be essential functions of the job.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Works indoors in a temperature controlled environment.
  • Position requires handling various chemicals and occasionally working in a fume hood.
  • Requires good judgment, good problem solving, communication and math skills as well as good color perception.
  • Position requires walking, standing, sitting, transporting up to 40lbs, and wearing a chemical cartridge respiration when needed.
