Summary: The Human Resources (HR) Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management for a non-profit organization operating in an at-will and a unionized workforce. This role involves developing and implementing HR strategies that align with the organization's mission, values, and union agreements for the group of employees under collective bargaining. The HR Director will lead a team to provide guidance, support, and administration of HR programs and initiatives.
The ideal candidate is motivated professional with 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, a positive attitude with a solid background in HR compliance, employee retention, collective bargaining, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support the organization's mission and objectives, while adhering to regulations and requirements of funding agencies.
- Collaborate with senior management to align HR practices with the company's goals.
- Provide leadership and direction to the HR team, fostering a positive and inclusive work culture.
- Implement strategies to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness (DEI) in the work place.
- Ensure compliance with union contracts and employment laws while maintaining positive labor relations.
- Handle employee grievances and disciplinary matters (in collaboration with union representatives for the unionized employees).
- Oversee recruitment efforts to attract and retain a diverse and skilled workforce.
- Coordinate with departments to identify staffing needs and develop effective hiring strategies.
- Lead the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring they are integrated smoothly into the organization.
- Manage compensation structures, benefits packages, and incentive programs.
- Analyze market trends to ensure competitive compensation and benefits offerings.
- Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employees' skills and competencies and implement employee development plans.
- Implement a performance management system that aligns with organizational goals.
- Provide guidance to managers on performance evaluations, goal setting, and improvement plans.
- Support managers in addressing performance-related issues and fostering employee growth.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as union agreements.
- Maintain accurate HR records and documentation to support legal requirements and audits.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification highly desirable.
- Proven experience (7+ years) in HR leadership roles, preferably in a unionized non-profit organization.
- Thorough understanding of labor laws, union contracts, and employee relations.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to align HR practices with organizational goals.
- Proficiency in HR software and systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Reliable with patience and professionalism.
