Galaide Professional Services, Inc. (GPSI Guam) is a federal contractor based in Hagåtña on the island of Guam. GPSI Guam is seeking a full-time Safety Specialist to work in the Naval Base Guam Installation Safety Office. The ideal candidate will provide safety services and expertise to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the Installation Safety Office. The ideal candidate should exude passion and technical competence backed by a portfolio of safety and customer service experience in complex and challenging environments to create a compelling image for GPSI Guam and its teaming partners.

Principle Duties:

  • Provide safety expertise to unit commanders, supervisors, and safety officers in the establishment of techniques and procedures for the elimination or control of hazards
  • Effectively manage and maintain responsibilities for assigned safety programs
  • Provide technical assistance for mishaps; conduct interviews and investigations to identify root causes and eliminate or minimize causal factors
  • Conduct periodic workplace inspections of host and tenant commands to determine compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Provide formal and informal training to personnel covering a variety of safety and occupational health topics
  • Advise senior level management on the status of the safety and occupational health programs; be able to provide appropriate recommendations to meet applicable standards

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience working in a Navy safety office a plus but not required
  • Current trends in the safety field relative to mishap prevention and hazard identification as well as selling safety to all workforce levels
  • Applicable safety resources

  • Objectively analyze information to solve problems or make informed decisions and/or recommendations
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing to customers and team
  • Establish successful working relationships with a workforce representing diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Treat all employees and affiliates with courtesy and respect
  • Assess customer needs and ensure receipt of needed services through personal service or making appropriate referrals
  • Exercise appropriate judgment when answering questions and/or releasing information
  • Must demonstrate efficient time management skills

Desirable Traits

  • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and seek professional development through the duration of their safety career
  • Should welcome situations that challenge one to think outside of the box
  • Experienced motorcycle rider a plus

Education/Experience: At least one year of direct experience as a safety specialist or be able to demonstrate 2-3 years in a position where a minimum 30% (12 hrs/wk) of primary duties are safety-related

  • Bachelor's degree desired but not required

Background Investigation:

This is a federal government contract position and the ideal candidate must clear 100% of the agency's required background check. Candidate will be required to work on a military installation.

Introductory Period:

Candidates for this position will serve a 90-day probationary period. Benefits are exempt from this period.
