Title: Behavioral Scientist

Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD

Status: Full-Time

Position Summary:

The Behavioral Scientist will support the program evaluations and research activities to develop, assess, and transition psychological health products intended to improve overall wellness. The Behavioral Scientist will report to the manager or unit/department head. Supports the work of the researchers and/or technicians to maximize operational effectiveness. Will perform all duties in accordance with all Safety regulations and respond to all request for improvements in a timely manner in coordination with the PI.

• Coordinate with units to conduct initial training to verify that the skills targeted in the training program are administered as designed.
• Modify and training all staff and training materials if deficiencies are identified.
• Provides written reports, presentation of results to necessary stakeholders and publishes in journals, if required.
• Demonstrated expertise in a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Provides consultation on complex projects, when required.
• Able to interpret scientific program policies and associated principles as well as comprehensive and detailed knowledge of functionality, workflow, and styles to plan, organize and implement assigned programs.
• Ensure all policies and procedures are followed during all phases of the study; preparation, conduct, analysis, and processing of clinical data.
• Administer all tests in accordance with Best Practice and current policies and procedures.
• Maintain a professional during all interactions with other staff and subjects.
• Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly and properly and in accordance with the all related PHI and policies and procedures.
• Provide technical support, when needed.
• Possess a minimal proficiency in programs such as Word, Excel, etc. and have a basic understanding of statistics and other related programs.

Minimum Requirements:
• PhD in area of specialty and minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience.
• Proficient in survey development, focus group and interview development, writing protocols, regulatory approvals, and quantitative/qualitative analysis.
• Extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
• Ability to follow and apply best practices.
• Knowledge of all current guidelines for pharmacological agents used in human research or past related experience with the ability to demonstrate similar skill knowledge.
• Possess a minimal proficiency in programs such as Word, Excel, etc. and have a basic understanding of statistics and other related programs.
• Adhere to all scientific standards of responsible conduct of research and scientific training.
• Must be able to work independently following a brief period of training.

Work Environment:

May be required to work in laboratory-type areas. Working in facilities or laboratories shall be required to wear uniforms (i.e. scrubs, suits, lab coats) and appropriate protective clothing, if required, and equipment as identified for that area and appropriate PPE as defined by the SOP, ASP, and Safety Department. Position, Site, and/or Contract may have vaccination requirements.

Physical Demands: May be required to lift equipment and supplies of 40 lbs. or more in weight and to push and pull racks, carts, and dollies. Continuous walking, standing, sitting, and considerable arm and hand movements shall be required.
