Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) is looking for a full time Surgical Preservation Coordinator to join our team in Louisville, KY! The Surgical Preservation Coordinator (SPC) is responsible for managing the operating room recovery of organ donor cases and the pulsatile perfusion of recovered organs as identified by protocol or transplant center request. The SPC may also be responsible for the recovery of organs and tissues for research. Participates in fly outs for local transplant centers.

Specific duties may include:
  • Assists with organ recoveries both local and non-local cases.
  • Maintain surgical recovery equipment and supplies.
  • Performs pulsatile perfusion of kidneys and other organs as approved by KODA protocols.
  • Maintains pulsatile perfusion equipment / supplies.
  • Completes appropriate pump and cleaning logs.
  • Documents procedure notes and uploads required attachments in donor electronic medical record.
  • Communicates pump numbers and transportation needs with transplant surgeons and/or programs.
  • Packages organs utilizing TransNet post-pulsatile perfusion based on transportation arrangements and arranges for courier pick up, as needed, and signs them out following established KODA protocols.
  • Accepts on call responsibilities as scheduled.
  • Consults with the Surgical Preservation Operations Manager and AOC when indicated and collaborates with external agencies to assist with import organs.
  • Reviews donor information in the UNOS system.
  • Allocates organs and tissues for research.
  • Recovers organs and tissues for research.
  • Participates in case debriefings and clinical meetings.

Minimum Qualifications for this position are as follows:

Required:
  • Associates degree in a healthcare science or similar field of study, or completion of healthcare certification program, such as nursing, paramedic, EMT, scrub technologist, surgical technologist.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of healthcare experience required in nursing, critical care, or as a surgical team scrub tech, surgical assistant, perfusionist or similar role required
  • CTP will be required following 1 year in this role.

Preferred:
  • Experience in tissue recovery or as a tissue banking specialist preferred. Experience with aseptic technique strongly preferred.
  • Certification as a Tissue Bank Specialist, Surgical Technologist, LPN, RN, or CTP preferred.
