Karamedica, Inc. is seeking a talented, highly motivated, passionate person to join our highly interdisciplinary team and help us revolutionize the delivery of drugs in the body and treatment of neurological disease! We are now accepting applications for a Research Scientist / Postdoctoral Associate position to start Fall 2020. This position will help lead a NIH SBIR-funded project that seeks to advance development of Karamedica’s nose-to-brain chitosan microparticle delivery system. The research will test the novel microparticle therapy in a mouse model of cerebral amyloid angiopathy.

This person will plan and perform complex laboratory experiments, data collection and analysis, and troubleshoot issues that arise. This position requires writing reports and publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals, as well as assisting with writing grant/funding proposals. There is a possibility to expand Karamedica’s R&D pipeline based on scientific interests. This individual may also participate in day-to-day laboratory management duties, coordinate and direct the work and research tasks of lower level research staff. Some of the responsibilities for this position may include:
Refine and develop new research approaches based on project requirements
Conduct, coordinate and trouble-shoot advanced laboratory experiments using a number of nanofabrication, plasma chemistry, biomedical and bio-analytical methods and instrumentation.
Format and analyze small animal MR images
Collect and analyze laboratory data and write laboratory reports
Advise on new directions for research projects based on experimental results
Organize and prepare laboratory data, maintain a laboratory notebook, and write laboratory reports
Author and co-author articles for publications and present research findings in scientific meetings
Support the Principle and Co-investigators with grant writing and in supervision of students and lower level laboratory personnel

Must hold a MS or PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific field (neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology, biotechnology, materials science, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field.
Experience: 0-3 years experience or more. Must have a strong background and hands-on experience in one or more of these areas: nanoparticle synthesis, gene transfection, histology, cell culture, immunoflorescence staining, LAL assay (endotoxin quantification), etc. Must be highly motivated in interdisciplinary research. Will participate in NIH-funded research projects.
Preferred Job Knowledge/Skills
Molecular biology, bioengineering, plasma chemistry, chemical engineering, nanoparticle synthesis. Must be results-driven with the capacity to work with minimal supervision to effectively achieve goals on time.
