A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

As a Human Resources Generalist, you support our employees as they work to prevent child abuse and neglect as well as mitigate the trauma of adversity for both children and their parents. You effectively administer all HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, training, development, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relations, risk management, HR-related policy development and implementation, and HR regulatory compliance. You facilitate positive employee relationships on all levels.

Using your organizational skills, you assist with the proper handling and storage of all employee records, conduct HR program audits, and prepare vouchers for HR-related expenses. You frequently participate in the development, setup, and maintenance of ADP, our HRIS and payroll system. As a team player, you report to and collaborate with the Director of Human Resources on various projects and assist with planning and facilitating the annual summer break project.

One of your primary goals is to assist in talent acquisition and recruitment processes. You will also assist the Director of Human Resources on compliance in areas including but not limited to: EEO, ERISHA, OSHA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA and PPACA. You will also be an asset to the Human Resources Department by ensuring that internal HR policies and procedures comply with the Head Start Performance Standards, grants and/or funding requirements, as well as the Head Start Act.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
  • Ability to confidentially manage HR and medical-related information and demonstrate ethical and professional conduct at all times.

Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) or Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) human resources certification is preferred. Experience with HRIS systems as well as working knowledge about the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA), and related federal regulations is preferred but not required.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time position typically works Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.
