RN Clinical Nurse Educator - Acute Care

The Acute Care Clinical Educator coordinates a comprehensive clinical education plan which reflects and supports the Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) mission, values and strategic plan, national and state practice standards, regulatory recommendations, and varied learning needs. Primary areas of responsibility include; Medical/Surgical, 1st Floor Oncology, HealthCenter In-Patient and Inpatient Rehab.


  1. *Primarily responsible for coordinating activities in the care areas of Medical/Surgical, 1st Floor Oncology, HealthCenter In-Patient and In-Patient Rehab. Assists clinical staff to acquire, maintain, and/or expand unit-specific and bedside competence in medical and surgical patient care procedures, equipment operation, patient education, and documentation.
  2. *Performs formal needs assessments and collects other pertinent information to identify priority learning needs and outcomes.
  3. *Plans and develops educational strategies to meet identified needs and desired outcomes.
  4. *Implements courses, tools, and resources to carry out education plans.
  5. *Teaches and trains using principles of learning and effective methodologies based on applying relevant research to support learning.
  6. *Exhibits success in problem solving, making timely decisions and executing on action plans to achieve organization’s mission, goals, and objectives.
  7. *Evaluates actual learning outcomes and program effectiveness in relation to desired outcomes.
  8. *Serves as catalyst for change within organization by facilitating initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.
  9. *Assumes formal and informal consultant role by assisting individuals and groups with input, feedback, solutions, and learning integration.
  10. *Exhibits leadership behaviors by supporting and collaborating with organization and administrative structures and overseeing resources to achieve departmental and organization goals.
  11. *Maintains education program documentation, records and files in accordance with organization policy and regulatory expectations.
  12. *Works closely with Professional Development Educator and Shift Unit Supervisors in onboarding new hires and nurse residents in assigned areas.

  1. Current Montana RN license or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required.
  2. Certification in Professional Staff Development and/or Med/Surg preferred. Must achieve and maintain instructor certification in nationally recognized skills courses associated with position responsibilities (e.g. BLS, ILS, etc.) within six (6) months of hire.
  3. BSN preferred. Master’s degree in nursing education or related field preferred.
  4. Minimum of five (5) years of acute care clinical experience preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience preferred. Leadership and/or case management experience preferred.
  5. Possess exemplary communication, collaboration and customer service skills. Time management skills required to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  6. Demonstrated success in consultation, leadership and the ability to serve as a catalyst for change.
  7. Possess ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, problem solve and make appropriate decisions in a timely fashion. Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, staff, patients, public and external agencies to achieve department and organization mission, goals, and objectives.
