Montana Childrens (MC) Clinical Nurse Educator - In-service Education

This position coordinates a comprehensive clinical education plan which reflects and supports the Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) mission, values and strategic plan, national and state practice standards, regulatory recommendations, and varied learning needs of the MC.


  1. *Primarily responsible for coordinating activities in the care areas of Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics, and Obstetrics Clinic. Assists clinical staff to acquire, maintain, and/or expand unit-specific and bedside competence in neonatal, pediatric, and obstetrics patient care procedures, equipment operation, patient education, and documentation.
  2. *Performs formal needs assessments and collects other pertinent information to identify priority learning needs and outcomes.
  3. *Plans and develops educational strategies to foster critical thinking and meet identified needs and desired outcomes.
  4. *Implements courses, tools, and resources to carry out education plans.
  5. *Teaches and trains using principles of learning and effective methodologies based on applying relevant research to support learning.
  6. *Exhibits success in problem solving, making timely decisions and executing on action plans to achieve Montana Children’s mission, goals, and objectives.
  7. *Evaluates actual learning outcomes and program effectiveness in relation to desired outcomes.
  8. *Serves as a catalyst for change within organization by facilitating initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.
  9. *Assumes formal/informal consultant role by assisting individuals and groups with input, feedback, solutions, and learning integration.
  10. *Exhibits leadership behaviors by supporting/collaborating with organization and administrative structures and overseeing resources to achieve departmental and organization goals.
  11. *Maintains education program documentation and records/files in accordance with organization policy and regulatory expectations.
  12. *Works closely with Student Coordinator and Shift Unit Supervisors on placement of students on nursing units and facilitates student experiences and other job duties as assigned.

  1. Current Montana RN License or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required. BSN preferred. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of pediatric, neonatal or obstetrical clinical experience required.
  3. Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience preferred. Leadership and/or case management experience preferred.
  4. Certification in RNC-OB, CPN, and/or Professional Staff Development certification preferred.
  5. Must achieve and maintain instructor certification in nationally recognized skills courses associated with position responsibilities (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP) within six (6) months of hire.
  6. Possess exemplary communication, collaboration and customer service skills. Time management skills required to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  7. Demonstrated success in consultation, leadership and the ability to serve as a catalyst for change.
  8. Possess ability to take initiative, exercise independent judgment, problem solve and make appropriate decisions in a timely fashion. Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, staff, patients, public and external agencies to achieve department and organization mission, goals and objectives.
