Critical Care Clinical Educator - RN

Works with the Education Director, the leadership of ICU, IMC, Cath Labs, Holding Room and Specials, and other leadership personnel to design a staff development program that facilitates performance competence and the attainment of standards of care consistent with Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s (KRH) mission and values. Emphasis is on, but not limited to, courses, tools, and resources which address priority learning needs in relation to KRH strategic plan and goals, policies/procedures, regulatory expectations, and standards of practice. Primarily responsible for coordinating those activities in the critical care areas of ICU, IMC, Cath Labs, Holding Room and Specials which are intended to assist clinical staff to acquire, maintain, and/or expand unit-specific and bedside competence in patient care procedures, equipment operation, patient education, and documentation.

  1. *Perform formal needs assessments and collect other pertinent information to identify priority learning needs and outcomes.
  2. *Plan/develop educational strategies to foster critical thinking and meet identified needs and desired outcomes.
  3. *Implement courses, tools, and resources to carry out education plans.
  4. *Teach and train using principles of learning and effective methodologies.
  5. *Evaluate actual learning outcomes and program effectiveness in relation to desired outcomes.
  6. *Serve as change agent within organization by facilitating initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.
  7. *Assume formal/informal consultant role by assisting individuals and groups with input, feedback, solutions, and learning integration.
  8. *Exhibit leadership behaviors by supporting/collaborating with organization and administrative structures and managing resources to achieve departmental and organization goals.
  9. *Demonstrate researcher role by designing, creating, and/or applying relevant research to support learning.
  10. *Maintain education program documentation and records/files in accordance with organization policy and regulatory expectations.

  1. Current Montana RN license; certification in Professional Staff Development is preferred (and primary for educator position); achieves and maintains instructor certification in nationally recognized skills courses associated with position responsibilities (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC).
  2. Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree preferred; Master’s degree in nursing or related field is encouraged.
  3. At least 5 years of critical care clinical experience required; at least 3 years of teaching experience preferred; supervisory and/or case management experience helpful.
  4. Familiarity with practice standards and regulatory requirements; competency in classroom and computer-based training program development; fluency with Microsoft computer skills/programs and electronic patient care documentation systems; excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills; ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; flexibility with ongoing/unexpected change.
