Elementary Academically Talented Teacher

Scope of Responsibilities

The Academically Talented (AT) program concentrates on developing critical and creative thinking in math and language arts to approximately 600 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who have been identified as having outstanding abilities. The AT program is delivered in six buildings by Instructional Specialists for the Academically Talented. Students in grades 3-5 receive all-day instruction one day a week at the Community Education Center (CEC) from the Instructional Specialists. Instructional Specialists also provide a full day of instruction at CEC for a very high group of Avant Garde students in grade 5.

Performance Responsibilities

Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

  1. Assists in ongoing development of the Academically Talented Curriculum.

  2. Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data as a function of process/product evaluation.

  3. Previews and recommends for purchase materials for the Academically Talented Program.

  4. Assists in the design of Academically Talented Program.

  5. Provides periodic program information to parents/guardians.

  6. Performs other duties as assigned. Works collaboratively with team of Instructional Specialists in all aspects of the AT program.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. BA or BS in Elementary Education (ZG Endorsement)

  2. Two years experience at the elementary level

  3. Minor in Mathematics and Language Arts

  4. ESSA Highly Qualified to teach Elementary

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with successful research-based instructional strategies

  2. Ability to successfully differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners at varying levels

  3. Reflective in his/her own teaching practice

  4. Flexible and open to change in order to meet the needs of learners at varying levels

  5. Effectively collaborate with grade level and building colleagues

  6. Have a commitment to students, parents/guardians, team and staff.
