This job entails the normal duties of a Protective Security Officer (PSO), working at a federal facility that falls under the protection of the Federal Protective Service (FPS). Some of the duties include, but are not limited to: access control, providing escorts, facility patrols, detainments of individuals, assisting employees & visitors, following the Post Orders & regulations of the PSO SMART Book, responding to alarms, securing the facility, report writing, and responding to various emergencies- to include those which might be life threatening, and adhering to the guidelines presented within the Statement(s) of Work. This position will require the routine, mandated in-service training, dictated by FPS, to include: semi-annual firearms qualifications, first aid/CPR/AED training, collapsible baton training, OC spray training, screening training (NWDTP related), and the 40 Hour Tri-Annual Refresher training, as necessary. In addition to the FPS training, this position will require the routine, in-service training mandated by the state/jurisdiction in which they perform their duties.
Please note, for this position we are only able to hire candidates who have already completed all PSO training and have been vetted to work under the authority of the Federal Protective Service (FPS) on certain GSA facilities. This means all candidates must already have the certifications required by the FPS, provided by a training academy/department recognized by the FPS. These certifications consist of a 40 Hour Basic Weapons Exhibit, a 64 Hour Basic Security Officer Exhibit, the NWDTP Exhibit, the DHS 8 Hour Orientation, the Baton and OC Operator certifications, and the First Aid/CPR/AED certifications provided by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Candidates who have been a PSO for over three years must also have a 40-Hour Tri-Annual Exhibit. In addition to the certifications required by the FPS, the candidate must have any certifications that are mandated according to the state/jurisdiction in which they will be working.
