Job Description

Our firm is seeking an exceptionally bright, well-organized, and self-motivated individual to support our patent attorneys.  We are able to support remote work in California, New York, Texas, Utah and Washington.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail and possesses great organization and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to complete complex tasks quickly. The ideal candidate will react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround, and be eager to take on varied and exciting new projects and learn new skills. The candidate will also possess a high level of integrity and discretion in managing confidential information, and professionalism is critical. This remote-friendly role is available for full-time employment for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

·       Provide support and assistance to our patent attorneys

·       Maintain personal dockets for various attorneys, ensuring all deadlines are met

·       Prepare and file documents with the USPTO and International Bureau of WIPO in connection with domestic and foreign patent prosecution and maintenance, including but not limited to: initial application filings, office action responses, formal documents, information disclosure statements, petitions, issue fee payments, assignments and maintenance fees

·       Manage patent application filings via EFS, USPTO Patent Center, ePCT and EPAS

·       Draft and coordinate signatures on formal documents, including inventor declarations, assignments and power of attorneys

·       Review USPTO correspondence and complete corresponding checklist for attorney review

·       Prepare correspondence, routine letters, memos and other prosecution documents

·       Oversee filing, prosecution and maintenance of international patent matters, including communicating directly with foreign agents

·       Communicate with clients, internal legal team and outside counsel

·       Maintain record of annuity deadlines and coordinate payment

·       Work with attorney to coordinate incoming and outgoing portfolio transfers

·       Maintain electronic files in Prolaw

·       Enter billing records, data, maintain databases, and keep records

·       Perform secretarial and administrative duties

·       Conduct legal and investigative research as required

·       Manage, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously

·       Perform other duties and assist with special projects as needed

·       Proficiency with EFS, USPTO Patent Center and ePCT on-line filing procedures

·       Proficiency with internet-based patent search databases (UPSTO PAIR) and other legal research tools

Requirements

·       Bachelor's Degree and/or a certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program

·       Minimum of 3+ years of applicable substantive experience as a legal secretary or paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department

Compensation

$20-$25/hr.
