Job Description Director of Retention KIPP MA’s Director of Retention works as part of a collaborative Talent Team in partnership with school and regional leadership to attract and retain world class educators.  As a leader on the Recruitment & Retention Team, the Director will work in collaboration with the Director of Recruitment to support and develop R&R Managers with the retention of exceptional talent already at KIPP MA. The Director of Retention will be responsible for helping to cultivate a professional working environment that is authentic and allows for joy, excellence, care, and community. The Director of Retention will implement the vision and create practices to help make KIPP MA an organization that is best for students, families, and staff. The Director of Retention is human-centered; understands that we are a “people first” organization, and believes that our students deserve predictability, consistency, and strong teachers that will support them throughout their years at KIPP MA.  This Director understands the power of relationships and connectivity, and that our staff at KIPP MA need to feel seen, heard, included, and a sense of belonging in order to stay, and will implement initiatives to ensure we keep our talented staff   Lastly, the Director of Retention needs to feel comfortable and confident in engaging directly with School Leadership, and will leverage data to improve their practice.

The ideal candidate has a strong ability to connect with others and build trust, as well as has the personal skills to effectively manage their time and communication with a diverse set of stakeholders including teachers, students, community members, principals, prospective candidates, and new hires. This position will report directly to the MD of Recruitment & Retention KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Vision and Implementation Create initiatives that will support in driving positive staff culture across the organization Works alongside DSOs to ensure strong onboarding for all our new hires Become embedded in school communities and develop relationships with current staff Support our Secondary Residency/Fellowship Programming by ensuring they receive quality coaching and have access to regular PD. Overseeing initiatives such as “Snack Attack” and “Coffee Carts”, through R&R Managers Collaborate with leaders across departments to create regional opportunities for staff to feel a sense of belonging, valued and appreciated. Support ITR process alongside our MD of Recruitment & Retention, by understanding where our staff are at across the region, pull trends, and provide support through other leaders and key-stakeholders Recognize gaps or areas of growth in how we approach retention at KIPP MA, and propose/implement initiatives that speak to your strengths, that will strengthen the KIPP MA community, for staff to feel a greater sense of belonging. Attend Recruitment & Retention Meetings to get a clear picture of how staff are doing/feeling across our organization, and work in tandem with our Director of Recruitment to potentially put additional supports in place Lead 30/60/90 day New-to-KIPP conversations through R&R Managers, and roll-up data/themes to the Executive Leadership Team Support Recruitment Networking Events and Career Fairs to discuss Retention initiatives at KIPP MA with candidates Oversee Employee Value Proposition, which shares organizational benefits aside from compensation Support in leading Resume Reviews + Mock Interviews for KIPP MA Staff Help in running Professional Developments that the Talent Leadership Team believes to be a priority  Represent KIPP MA in a professional and engaging manner at internal and external events Support APs/Coaches with onboarding/PD for our Secondary Resident/Fellowship programming Serve as a thought partner and guide for the Director of Recruitment and managers around staffing decisions, always working to mitigate the influence of personal biases and maintain our high bar  Team Leadership, Collaboration & Thought Partnership Work in tandem with the Director of Recruitment and support the Recruitment & Retention team Work in tandem with the MD of R&R to support leaders and their teams across KIPP MA during ITR Season, to figure out best career pathing opportunities Represent the organization and lead key partnerships with external organizations, including Teach For America and Generation Teach Work with School Leaders/APs to ensure our secondary residency/fellow teachers are receiving strong coaching and PD opportunities Work closely with the Senior Executive Advisor +  Executive Director to support the ED’s work with the ED Consigliere Retention Work and Programming Working closely with Regional Leadership and Principals to develop and lead an organization-wide plan to increase staff sustainability, including ensuring that all roles across the organization are strategically structured to be sustainable for the long run Oversee school-based retention initiatives Ensure candidates receive a smooth onboarding process since we believe more successful starts will lead to stronger retention Work closely with the MD of Recruitment & Retention during the Intent-to-Return (ITR) process each year for the schools and regional office in order to better understand what is keeping people at KIPP MA and what is leading to staff exits, and using that data to predict position vacancies for future hiring seasons Working closely with the MD of R&R and HRTD, to use ITR data and ITR conversations to understand and track Career Pathways for staff, and then set up systems for staff to grow With Principals and Regional Leadership, analyze and understand annual TNTP data and ensure that plans are implemented to increase key staff engagement metrics at each school Track and maintain annual staff retention data by using exit data and exit conversations to understand the main drivers of staff exits Ensure that the organization meets staff retention goals at each school and in the Regional Office, including goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives In collaboration/tandem with the Director of Recruitment, send out the Recruitment & Retention Updates to all KIPP MA staff Regional Responsibilities Embody KIPP MA’s Code of Conduct by acting with integrity, leading with humanity, centering self-awareness and critical consciousness, taking personal responsibility, and engaging productively Participate and engage in regional professional development and community events as required KIPP MA staff are supported in their demanding work by an experienced and dedicated KIPP MA Executive Leadership Team to assist with the success of their role. Our leaders maintain consistent cultural and logistical institution-wide systems and procedures designed to permit staff to do their best work.  In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that teachers will engage in to help promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture
