Job Description

The Trade Compliance Specialist ensures compliance with customs, regulatory, tariff or legal requirements for KHS international machine shipments; assist inventory control personnel with preparation of documents needed for shipments; works to reduce tax and liability risk; interacts with international KHS plants to make shipments more efficient and cost effective

  • Tracks import/export machine equipment flow from origin to final delivery; helps to identify most economical mode of transportation and ensure proper packaging practice.
  • Receives information on international machine projects from other departments; interface with GmbH shipping and project manager to ensure that customs documentation is completed properly by exporter; evaluates and collects logistics information to support import and export compliance.
  • Works with KHS international plants to develop export process to comply with USA import regulations; works closely on large international projects $5M to $10M USD.
  • Works with Engineering to categorize shipments in accordance with Harmonized Tariff Standards.
  • Consults with Freight Forwarder(s) as well as customs agents on imports and exports to ease passage of shipments through customs.
  • Reviews and improves processes to reduce / avoid duties and taxes associated with international logistics.
  • Advises and trains inventory control, customer service, sales and project management employees on logistics policies, antidumping tariffs, commercial compliance, punitive duties, census warnings and free trade agreements.
  • Working with inventory personnel, evaluates current logistics process to determine the most cost effective and lower environmental impact for international shipments.
  • Develops international logistics compliance manuals, guidelines and policies.
  • Maintains logistics and compliance records in accordance with corporate and governmental policies.
  • Assist with evaluating freight rates to determine the most efficient and economical modes of transportation.
  • Prepare and analyze key performance indicators to improve logistics process and reduce costs
  • Participate in carrier evaluation processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation.
  • Assess insurance limits to cover risks.

Bachelor’s Degree and three years’ experience in international trade logistics involving transportation, import/export, tax, international banking issues, trade related regulatory requirements, especially of US and Germany, and contractual implications • One year experience with enterprise resource planning software or equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
