Director of EHS
Summary:
We are working with a growing food processor that is looking for a Director of EHS & Sustainability. This role will travel their multiple processing/manufacturing sites ensuring accident-free work environments protecting employees, caring for the environment, and minimizing waste while creating value for the customer This is a highly visible and transformational role with a focus on change. Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Bring forward leading industry best practices & programs to add value to the company
- Drive world class safety culture & safety results across the organization
- Lead with passion and a CI mindset
- Integrate behavior-based safety programs into manufacturing systems collaborating with operations
- Provide guidance & assistance to management to ensure that safety & environmental policies are observed at all plant locations
- Overseeing company workers comp strategy to mitigate loss, cost and risk
- Inspect facilities to detect existing or potential hazards while recommending corrective measures
- Participate in meetings related to safety, environmental, & sustainability CI & compliance efforts
- Develop systems that meet/exceed federal & state regulatory agency compliance
- Lead, manage, & participate in accident investigations, insurance inspections, environmental audits, and OSHA investigations & inspections
- Develop, complete, & maintain all required paperwork, records and documents for the EHS function
- Collaborate with other functions on the property insurance strategy to mitigate loss, cost and risk
- Develop & communicate EHS/sustainable organizational policy
- Execute strategy to drive sustainable improvement in renewable energy programs, reduce energy use, recycling, carbon footprint
- Evaluate proposed environmental & safety regulatory changes and laws
- Hire, train, planning, assign and directing work
- Apprising performance and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Regular & punctual attendance
Required Skills/Qualifications (including but not limited to):
- Bachelor’s Degree in safety, rick management, environmental engineering, health/industrial or related study
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements for the industry & region which includes OSHA, EPA and other federal & state standards
- Past experience supervising/managing EHS employees
- Able to operate all information technology related to business systems
- Strong ability to interpret legal cases, professional journals or government regulations
- Ability to write reports, safety policies and procedures manuals
- Effective at presenting information and responding to questions
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to safety and environmental procedures
- Required to operate a variety of standard business machines
- Able to travel up to 50%
