Position: Development Associate

Reports to: Director of Development

Department: Development

Location: Flexible/Remote. Ideally SF Bay Area (or within location where JA NorCal serves) but open to outside that region for the right candidate.

FTE Status: Full-time exempt, benefits available.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000

The Development Associate role is a full-time hybrid position that helps manage and grow critical donor and volunteer relationships with the goal of maintaining accurate records that help us manage and developing strong funding and community engagement. This position will work to maintain our information system to track prospects, donors, and funding history, while also helping to acknowledge donations, prepare reports, and any other communications assistance. The Development Associate is a skilled communicator, is organized, with strong attention to detail and timely follow up.

This is a great opportunity for someone wants to develop a strong foundation in key fundraising skills such as grant writing, deadline management, donor relations, gift stewardship, and communication.


Development Support (60%)

  • Issue acknowledgment letters for individual donors and foundation gifts.

  • Manage records and information relating to development and cultivation/solicitation activity.

  • Coordinate process for individual gifts and pledge tracking/fulfillment ensuring data integrity.

  • Coordinate and maximize use of donor database, including documenting contacts and interactions, assigning tasks, generating regular and requested data reports.

  • Data migrations, cleaning, organizing, dashboard tailoring, report function creation.

  • Special assignments and projects as directed by Director of Development.

Grants Planning & Support (40%)

  • Support Development team in developing and managing grants plan and calendar, keeping track of key deadlines, and ensuring timely submission of applications.

  • Monitor grants: develop, track, and meet grant submission and reporting deadlines.

  • Relationship building with the CEO and Director of Development to facilitate relationship development with funders through regular communications, including creating a calendar of touch-points.


  • 1-3 years of nonprofit fundraising, grants, communications, or equivalent experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Equivalent experience.

  • Strong writing and organization skills

  • Committed to quality and integrity and the ability to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.

  • Strong commitment to team and mission.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage and work on multiple projects.

  • Literacy in Microsoft Office.

  • Donor database experience (Salesforce, BCRM).

Compensation And Location

This is a full-time position. Salary range $50,000-$65,000 (based on experience) and generous benefits, including covering full health benefit premiums (health, dental, vision, and life) and a 401k plan with an employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time.

The position will ideally be located in Northern California, within the region we operate in, but we will consider exceptional candidates who are located in other parts of the country.
