Job Objective

To plan, coordinate and conduct therapeutic recreation programming for adult day program.

Minimum Qualifications


Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, or related field.


2+ years of therapeutic recreation experience, leading rec planning and direction. Experience with older adults, particularly with dementia-diagnosed individuals or those with physical or cognitive challenges preferred. Demonstrate experience problem-solving and planning.


TRD certification, OT license or other licensure consistent with training.

CT driver's license

  8. Ability to handle multiple demands and tasks with a dynamic schedule each day.
  9. Ability to maintain calm in the event of emergencies.

Essential Job Functions:1. Develop and implement an engaging and changing program of therapeutic activities, entertainment, field trips, and social occasions for a variety of abilities and interests.2. Perform recreation assessments and participate in care planning and routine client charting. Report observable changes in client well-being to program nurse and document as appropriate.
  1. Coordinate and delegate daily assignment to adult day team members, students and volunteers. Provide activity/recreational training, group leadership or assistance as required.
4. Lead and/or assign team member daily chair-based exercise or wellness activity.
  1. Purchase and maintain recreation materials, inventory, as well as ensure safe storage of supplies and equipment.
  2. Manage recreation activity budget, petty cash supply, and processing of vendor invoices. May include driving to store to purchase items as needed.
  3. Participate in providing ADL assistance to clients as appropriate. This may include preparing, serving and cueing at meals or assisting with ambulation under the supervision of the program nurse.
  4. Represent Grasmere on Park Adult Day Program, and Jewish Senior Services to the community as required.
  5. Assist in driving small number (under 10) of clients on field trips, using minivan.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions
  1. Conduct program tours to visitors and assist in referral intake as needed.
  2. May act as backup to Early Memory Loss program.
  3. Act as backup driver if needed for daily transport.
