Job Summary

The Manager, Claims Operations - Finance provides budgeting, accounting, reporting, and financial analytics support to the VP, Claims Operations and Chief Claims Officer. The ideal candidate will manage processes and projects related to claim finance, staffing, budgeting, and efficiency. This position will serve as a liaison between Claims and other departments using claims financial data. This position is integral in ensuring the claim department adheres to an expense management discipline and continuously looks for processes to improve claim spend.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer Service
  • Manage processes, reports, and analytics related to claim department financial health and budget adherence
  • Work with Accounting/Finance and Internal Audit departments to ensure adequate claim financial controls are in place and being adhered to
  • Assist with monthly operational reporting, dashboards, metrics, and KPIs
  • Assist with interdepartmental projects, processes, and reports between Accounting, Actuarial, Reinsurance and Claims
  • Assist with claim department audits
  • Assist in the presentation and delivery of results to management and claims employees
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and sponsor for IT projects that impact claim financial systems and technology
  • Maintain high level of communication with Claims leadership; quickly handle escalated requests
  • Ensure that project and department milestones and goals are met
  • Interview, select and train new employees
  • Guide and help team members with project issues
  • Responsible for day-to-day tactical team decisions
  • Track employee performance and provide regular and appropriate feedback
  • Work with employees to collaboratively establish development plans
  • Provide employee feedback through regular check-ins and writing and delivering performance reviews
  • Lead team through obstacles and time constraints to overcome barriers and successfully deliver results


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in the following:
    • Budget management and financial reconciliation
    • Reporting in an insurance claims department
    • Microsoft Excel

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Minimum of two years of Finance/Accounting insurance experience required
  • Minimum of two years of Claims Operations experience required
  • Minimum of five years of related experience (budgeting operational reporting and working as a liaison across departments in the insurance industry) required
