The Account Manager leads the service, sales and marketing efforts for a dedicated book of client accounts.

Position Summary

  • Directs sales, marketing and service for a assigned book of business
  • Trains and educates Customer Service Representatives and Commercial Risk Management Specialists


  • Fosters strong client relationships by providing superior guidance, timely response, proactive education, and solutions-driven service
  • Possesses marketing and service expertise and imparts this knowledge and skills and abilities
  • Negotiates client coverage, rates, and premiums with insurance carriers
  • Clearly and effectively prepares and presents new coverage and renewal proposals
  • Meets with clients regularly
  • Trains and educates Customer Service Representatives
  • Trains and educates Commercial Risk Management Specialists
  • Facilitates new and renewal business implementation and/or placement consistent with company underwriting guidelines, including processing applications and quotes, ordering ID cards, preparing proposals, summaries, and comparisons, obtaining endorsements, certificates, and binders, setting up billing, and following up on and corresponding with assigned accounts
  • Maintains client files and records all client transactions, notes, activities, and full policy detail in the agency management system
  • Responds to client inquiries and attends to incoming mail, company requests, and producers in a timely fashion
  • Evaluates policy coverage and client needs
  • Identifies cross-selling and upgrade opportunities
  • Monitors quality and accuracy of client products and services, including receipt of and incorporation of correct endorsements, policies, certificates, and other coverage materials
  • Prepares billing in accordance with agency credit and collection policies
  • Reconciles accounting discrepancies
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource on the impact of policy provisions and changes
  • Stays current on industry, carrier, and legislative requirements and applies this knowledge
  • Performs special projects as initiated and assigned by management

  • Negotiation - Collaborates with the insurance carriers to provide solutions that meet clients' financial, coverage, and business goals
  • Training - Provides instruction and guidance to Customer Service Representatives and Commercial Risk Management Specialists to more effectively service, market and sell to client base

Experience and Education

  • Agent's license
  • CIC or CPCU certification preferred
  • Expertise in commercial lines insurance, including risk management products and services
  • Proven proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in web-based applications and data management systems
  • Experience with Applied EPIC management system is preferable but not required
  • Exceptional ability to deliver quality customer service
