Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB: 

The Psychologist will work in collaboration with all agency staff to promote quality mental health services for families, children and youth at JCCA. 

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Clinical Interventions:

  • Provide individual, group and family psychotherapy for children and adolescents in a residential treatment center. 
  • Assess and provide family therapy to aid in discharge planning as needed.
  • Develop and facilitate support groups agency wide (parents, foster parents, children, adolescents and staff).
  • Conduct psychological assessment for children and adolescents, including the administration, scoring, and interpretation of a wide range of cognitive, achievement, projective, and neuropsychological (where indicated) tools.
  • Maintain timely progress notes and other clinical notes related to individual therapy cases. 
  • Provide feedback for psychological assessment findings to interdisciplinary treatment teams as well as clients.
  • Work within the context of a multidisciplinary team with the goal of positive outcomes toward permanency.
  • Provide crisis intervention and assist with psychiatric hospitalizations on as needed basis.

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Participate in ongoing individual and group clinical and assessment supervision of psychology interns and externs within the context of the APA accredited internship program and externship program.
  • Participate in ongoing programmatic evaluations and development of the internship and externship programs.
  • Attend APA internship/ externship fair and engage in other recruitment opportunities. 
  • Participate in review of psychology internship and externship applications, and interviewing and selection of applicants.

Training:

  • Lead training seminars for staff and psychology trainees in various topics as needed.
  • Develop and facilitate clinical training agency wide (parents, foster parents, children, adolescents and staff).

 Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Attend special administrative meetings (Case Conferences and other relevant meetings).
  • Meet with agency-wide psychology department at least quarterly to discuss programmatic and administrative accomplishments, concerns and updates.
     

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • A Doctoral Degree in Clinical, Counseling of School Psychology from an American Psychological Association approved training Program
  • Licensed as New York State Licensed Psychologist.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years’ experience as a practitioner working in the field, doing therapy and assessments
  • Solid organizational and follow up skills; excellent communication, writing and presentation skills; computer literacy
  • Ability to manage and work with a variety of different people; culture competence a must
  • Spanish language skills a PLUS

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to perform light recreational activities (i.e. walking, filing)
  • Visual acuity to view documents on a computer screen for long periods of time
