IT Support Tech
J.R. Butler, Inc. is currently seeking an IT Support Tech to join our team. This full-time role will report directly to the IT Manager providing support to all levels of the organization
IT Support Tech will often perform their duties with minimal supervision and will be responsible for maintaining their schedule.
IT Support Tech Duties and Responsibilities
An IT Support Tech’s main duty is to offer assistance to computer system users. This may be with hardware, such as desktop computers, printers, scanners or handheld devices or it may be with software programs. The IT Support Technician will generally track all instances of support by creating IT tickets using ticket-tracking software. They will update the status of each ticket as they successfully assist each user with their issues. Their assistance may be conducted in person for internal users or on the phone when assisting external users. Good customer service skills are important for IT Support staff.
Maintain and Upgrade Systems
IT Support Tech is in charge of keeping current systems updated and running smoothly. They are also tasked with upgrading the system and its components when the need arises. They conduct research and provide cost analysis data when upgrading or purchasing new hardware, software or equipment.
IT Support Tech may be tasked with overseeing an organizations data, including client information and internal information. This aspect of the job includes maintaining, backing up and securing databases, as well as restoring files as needed.

These skills include empathy, positivity, self-control and patience. Technical support specialists must have patience and be sympathetic to diffuse any frustration the end-user may be feeling. They must have strong customer service skills to solve problems quickly, efficiently and in a manner that leaves the customer or employee happy with the result.
Interpersonal skills refer to the cluster of skills commonly known as ‘people skills,’ such as social graces, communication, friendliness and optimism. Technical support specialists must be able to actively listen to end users to understand the problem they are describing and know what questions to ask to identify the problem. They must also have strong verbal communication skills, as they have to be able to describe a solution in a way that a non-technical person can understand. Excellent writing skills are also important in this role, as they may need to prepare instructions via writing for customers and employees, as well as for online chat boxes.
These skills include active listening, analysis, creativity, communication and decision-making. Technical support specialists must be able to identify both simple and challenging computer problems, analyze them, perform any necessary research and identify a solution.
These skills refer specifically to a technical support specialist’s ability to collect and analyze information. As part of the problem-solving process, these skills are integral to identifying a problem.
IT Support Tech Qualifications:
Windows 10 configuration, troubleshooting, and deployment
Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, basic Powershell and batch files, Windows Deployment Services
Basic TCP/IP knowledge, such as: subnetting, VLANs, routing/switching, ports and protocols
Ethernet cabling: CAT6 terminations to RJ45 and patch panel
Basic configuration of iOS and Android devices
Active Directory Infrastructure: Security and compliance of the Active Directory environment
File Sharing Infrastructure: Maintain a role-based file sharing system.
Professional and Personal Attributes:
Able and comfortable to teach and guide users on best practices, security improvements, and general computing
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Pay close attention to consistency and detail
Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor in every interaction
Take ownership of every problem until it is resolved
Able and comfortable to work in office, construction/field, and manufacturing environments; able to work with people of diverse backgrounds
Has a desire to learn and grow professionally and personally
Occasionally working in high temperature environments, working on scissor lifts, pulling cable through 50 ft ceilings, working at construction sites, etc.
Frequently: Carrying equipment up or down 1 flight of stairs, kneeling, bending, stooping, leaning, sitting for long periods of time.
