Job Description

Islamic Center of Irving Security Guard

Primary Purpose:

Under direct supervision, ensure a high degree of protection, safety, and security for Center Attendees, personnel, visitors, and property by monitoring and patrolling grounds, buildings, and other facilities.


  • Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred

  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability

  • Additional certifications in automated external defibrillator (AED), crisis prevention institute (CPI), and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will be required

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to clearly and accurately record information in writing

  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and maintain and exhibit emotional control

  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures and beliefs

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to have schedule altered with little or no warning


  • Security experience is highly preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:


1. Ensure the Center is properly and adequately secured by patrolling school and center property, conducting inspections, and monitoring premises for the presence of unauthorized persons and verifying their authority.

2. Monitor campuses for criminal activity or damage, and check to ensure doors and windows are secure.

3. Report unusual incidents to the Operation Manager or the Chief of Security immediately.

4. Manage crisis situations as they occur.


6. Establish and maintain a professional rapport with resource officers and staff, and maintain professional standards of conduct with students, personnel, parents, and visitors.

7. Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible, and serves as a role model for staff and the public.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.


9. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and Islamic Center policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: security uniform, flashlight, two-way radio, digital camera, alarm system, other security equipment, fire extinguisher, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged standing and sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping

Motion: Frequent walking and driving; occasional strenuous running, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching, and keyboarding

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis

Visual: Visual acuity

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; moderate exposure to hot and cold temperature, humid conditions, and inclement weather; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours and on call

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control and physical restraint when under stress and in crisis conditions
