Job Description

Position Overview:

This position is part of a centralized Medical Business Unit Team that is focused on Medical Product Development and will be primarily focused on the Metal Stamping and forming division, but with opportunities in the other Interplex markets as well. This role will support the sales effort with technical and proposal assistance, conceptualize product designs to meet customer specifications and implement into production by executing the APQP product development process from design through validation and customer approval. The position will lead a primary technical focus on developing products with critical mechatronic electrical connections that incorporate and expand on Interplex’s existing core competencies which include sophisticated stampings insert-molded into complex plastic housings and medical device durables. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing R&D activities, Product Development engineering teams and Manufacturing engineering teams as an overall rounded engineering manager with responsibilities in all phases including design engineering, technical project management, manufacturing and test engineering. This candidate should also enjoy the development process through a combination of mechanical, electrical and electronic technologies that depend on his/her high degree of knowledge in development capabilities.

Position Specifics:

This position requires engineering management experience in a highly regulated environment such as medical, automotive or military along with experience in electromechanical assemblies. The emphasis of this position will be on the Engineering Management, product development and sustaining engineering of metal products, both driven by internal specifications as well as external customer requirements including R&D, design, development, testing and project management in a high-paced, results driven environment. Ideally this person would have experience in stamping & forming, injection molding, automation,  FEA and DOE/test methodologies with knowledge of RoHS, REACH and ISO-13485 requirements.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

·         Manage a product development team based on Customer Specification or Internal Marketing Initiatives

·         Manage R&D/Testing teams in the development of new customer and internal projects

·         Manage Manufacturing engineering in the development of new processes and improvement of existing processes

·         Manages the Engineering NPI (New Product Integration) process, through to production

·         Assist Business Development & Sales by performing customer specification reviews and developing product requirements based on                customer specs

·         Turn Concepts into product designs, creating and maintaining the product throughout the product lifecycle

·         Manage all Engineering activities internally and liaise with the Global Engineering teams to support NPI and sustained projects.

·         Manage the performance and growth of direct reports at multiple sites across North America

·         Oversee the development of prototyping and test plans to support concept, design, pilot and production validation phases

·         Assist in the outline/creation of DVP&R validation plans, oversee capability and validation testing, review test procedures and reports              and support engineering disposition/conclusions

·         Manage and support sustaining engineering activities

·         Prepares and implements department operating and capital budgets

·         Participates in manpower requirements planning, scheduling, and assists with capacity planning               

·         Work with Tool Room to improve existing tools and processes

·         Provides input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures and assigned areas of responsibility.

·         Work with Tool Room to debug new tools and processes and improve existing tools and processes.

Job Requirements:

·         Minimum 10 years’ experience in metal stamping, forming and drawing

·         Experience in vertical and horizontal molding (Preferred)

·         Experience in  Automation (Preferred)

·         BSME degree with a minimum of 5 years’ management experience in the Design and Development of custom products in a regulated            environment (Medical Preferred)

·         Strong understanding of 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred)

·         Strong problem solving and analytical skills

·         Experience with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

·         Technical understanding Metal stamping, drawing and injection molding processes

·         Strong communication and presentation skills
