Job Description

IDA is looking for an emerging marketing professional and storyteller who can help develop quality content for diverse audiences, provide support across the organization to promote IDA programs, implement digital advertisements that generate revenue to support IDA’s mission, and engage the wider documentary community across multiple channels and platforms. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator supports a busy multifaceted Communications team, reporting to the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Design.

This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment are subject to collective bargaining with the union.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft emails, including the weekly digest, event invitations, newsletters, and sponsored advertisements
  • Provide general website administration support, including updating content and publishing editorial articles
  • Create winning social media content, engage with the audience, and respond to inquiries and comments
  • Support IDA programs and events on social media through live tweeting and Facebook Live
  • Track and prepare monthly social media and email metrics reports
  • Propose and write stories that lift the visibility of the organization’s activities
  • Monitor and identify opportunities to participate in relevant social discussions within the documentary community
  • Intake and organize asset deliverables for public events and program promotion, driving timelines as needed and ensuring completion and adherence to guidelines
  • Assist in developing copy for program and event marketing
  • Coordinate and activate cross-promotions
  • Maintain and organize photo and video library
  • Ensure email contact lists are up-to-date following each event
  • Support the development and implementation of programmatic strategic communication initiatives to both internal and external audiences
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing communications strategies to nurture and grow IDA’s documentary community
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to provide communications support for all of IDA’s artist and industry programming
  • Assist with updates, analysis, and optimization of IDA digital communications platforms
  • Participate in social campaigns and content strategy brainstorms
  • Research ongoing updates to social media platforms and emerging technology trends
  • Provide general administrative and tactical support for the communications department as needed by creating and updating meeting agendas, taking and organizing notes at the department meetings, and maintaining calendars, databases, and team drives.

Qualification and Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in writing, film, communications, marketing, or other related majors, or comparable work experience in a relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time experience in communications in a professional environment, ideally with a nonprofit arts or media organization
  • A compelling and effective storyteller with strong demonstrated writing skills, including a proven ability to draft copy for events, social media, and blog posts to various audiences in a deadline-driven environment; SEO knowledge is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in film and/or nonprofit work and a passion for documentary film
  • Tech-savvy with strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in AirTable, MS Office Suite, Google Apps, and knowledge of HTML, and CSS
  • Proven experience with digital platforms: email marketing (e.g., Constant Contact or MailChimp), social media (e.g., Facebook Business Suite, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), CMS (knowledge of Drupal is a plus), events management (e.g., Eventbrite, Eventive, etc.), CRM (experience with Neon is a plus)
  • Proficient with consumer design platforms (e.g., Canva); knowledge of professional design software (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator) a plus
