The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an experienced energy sector professional with deep knowledge of and experience in energy markets related to liquified natural gas (LNG) and gas with a focus on Asia.
The role will provide technical and economic clarity to IEEFA’s analytical and policy assessment work in Asia with the task of evaluating how regional energy and financial markets impact country decarbonization and energy transition plans. The LNG/Gas Analyst will be responsible for shaping research and analysis about fossil fuel market impacts on national economies and regional markets with a primary focus on LNG and natural gas. The analyst will create impactful assessments and commentary on the energy transition in Asia. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Independently research and write original compelling, professional reports and commentaries covering the energy transition and decarbonization finance in the Asia region.
- Critically analyze the global fossil fuel markets with an emphasis on LNG and natural gas to ascertain the economic and fiscal impact they have on the country markets IEEFA covers in Asia.
- Conduct analyses to provide clarity on the economic options and challenges facing Asian countries as they assess how they will address the energy transition and tackle decarbonization in the short, medium, and long terms.
- Work closely with the LNG/Gas Research Lead, Asia to develop impact strategies and monitor the performance outcomes of IEEFA’s work relating to LNG and natural gas.
- Establish and engage with relevant stakeholders in private and public sectors within countries, industry, and across the Asia-Pacific region and represent IEEFA at meetings and industry events.
- Provide insights to the media and respond to requests for views to assist in building an informed public media narrative on financing the energy transition over the short, medium, and long term.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have covered, analyzed, or worked in the energy sector covering the energy markets in the Asia-Pacific region, with strong emphasis on fossil fuel commodities, particularly natural gas and LNG. Qualifications sought include:
- Five or more years’ of relevant experience in economics, finance, market analysis, and/or energy or related fields.
- A degree in finance, economics, accounting, or engineering and/or with professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented experience in lieu of those degrees.
- Competence in presenting insights on a technology’s techno-economic viability and how various energy transition solutions will impact a given country’s social and political economy.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with good political judgment both orally and in writing.
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of colleagues or partners, with the ability to critically analyze complex technical, economic, and financial matters.
- Professional proficiency in writing in English within analytical, policy and persuasive formats.
- Expert understanding of finance, economics, and quantitative analysis.
- High degree of technical proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint, and Word and demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications.

Compensation and Benefits
U. S. Based Employees:
The salary for locations in the United States will be commensurate with experience. Our competitive benefits package includes health, dental, and vision insurance, vacation leave (20 days per year), sick and safe leave (10 days per year), 12 paid holidays per year, 401(k) Safe Harbor Plan after 6 months employment, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a home office set-up stipend and technology equipment provided.
Outside of the U.S.
Salary and benefits differ for those based outside of the US. The full-time compensation package will include a 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and a market competitive remuneration.
Work Schedule
Full-time, 5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
Travel
Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and international team retreat in the US.
Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
