Since 2007, the Lenfest Center has provided youth of the Hunting Park-East Tioga sections of North Philadelphia with a welcoming, safe, and enriching refuge from systemic neighborhood violence, poverty, and a myriad of other trauma-inducing challenges. In 2018, North10, Philadelphia was formed as the parent organization, with the Center as the cornerstone of innovative and inclusive efforts to revitalize this neighborhood. North10’s goal is community development without displacement: to improve the neighborhood with the people of this neighborhood.

Job Description

North10 is looking for an experienced nonprofit professional to lead the operations, management, real estate, and program enrollment functions across the organization. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team focused on building a high performing organization that serves as a non-profit model for the City of Philadelphia and nation. The COO will serve as the senior leadership team's management/systems process guru, specifically ensuring the senior management team processes, organization-wide work processes, and institutional partnership processes are best in class. The COO will serve as a critical partner to the CEO to ensure the systems and structures that will shape the future of the organization and set Nort10 up for continued success as we grow.

This position represents a compelling opportunity to be part of non-profit moving from a ‘start-up mindset’ to one focused on sustainability and long-term impact through expanding our program reach and significant investments in real estate and community partnerships. We are addressing perhaps the most difficult and important problems facing our country’s urban centers - the systemic disinvestment and subsequent disintegration neighborhoods for communities of color to raise their children with a sense of dignity, pride, and community-togetherness.

Specific Duties:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for the following scope of work:

Management, Operations, and Organizational Processes – 50%:
  • Serve as key leader to establish and implement model systems of management to promote organizational culture and vision and support the strategic growth and development of the organization
  • Set a clear, coherent vision for North10’s operations; ensure operations are executed at a consistent, high-quality level. Create processes and operational metrics aligned with the operational goals of the organization.
  • Works collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the organization and insure excellent community service.
  • Manage operations, logistics, administration, and other aspects of daily operations for the entire organization.
  • Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the organization.
  • Ensure that the entire organization is high performing and an exemplar of non-profit organizational management.
  • Support data informed decision-making processes and procedures organization-wide.
  • Lead North10’s relationship with anchor back-office institutional partners for finance, HR, and IT

Real Estate and Facilities - 20%: Improve and implement a system of management and accountability for multiple facilities, supervising a complex real estate acc, and
  • Set a clear, coherent vision for all current and future North10 facilities; ensure all facilities functions are executed at a consistent, high-quality level.
  • Ensure all facilities maintain physical environments standards.
  • Be an instrumental organizational leader in developing, managing, and executing a real estate development plan.
  • Ensure all facilities are maintained at standard.
  • Ensure emergency and security systems are functional.

Program Enrollment – 15%: Ensure that all programs and services provided by the organization are effectively utilized by residents of Hunting Park-East Tioga
  • Design and execute a marketing and operational program enrollment strategy that enables all North10 youth and adult programs and community services to reach their enrollment budget targets.
  • Oversee marketing and communication campaigns for enrollment plans.
  • Train staff in enrollment tactics and strategy.
  • Support enrollment and attendance initiatives and intervene when necessary to ensure success.

Senior Leadership - 15%: Serve as a member of North10’s senior leadership team to collectively provide strategic direction oversight of the organization
  • Acts as a strategic partner on the leadership team and work closely with the team to ensure they are meeting performance expectations.
  • Work with leaders to ensure alignment across functions and drive cross-functional initiatives
  • Represents the organization serving as a key contact person with partner organizations, funders, and community members
  • Participate in Board meetings and on relevant Board committees to provide updates and solicit input on operations goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Job Skills & Qualifications
  • 7+ of management experience overseeing budgets, cross functional projects, and capital projects.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Nonprofit leadership preferred
  • COVID19 Vaccination Mandatory
  • Philadelphia resident preferred

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Chief Program Officer and Chief External Affairs Officer. This role is predominantly an onsite position, with some flexibility to work out of the office on occasion. Candidates must be based within commuting distance of Philadelphia.
