Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, provides inpatient adult and possibly pediatric neuropsychological assessments with a focus on differential diagnosis and treatment planning. Cases are in the emergency department, burn and wound clinic, rehabilitation, trauma, women’s health, pediatric trauma, and general medicine floors. The location is Doctors Hospital of Augusta, the largest burn center in the United States, along with an LTAC (Select Specialty) and rehabilitation hospital (Health South). Outpatient testing will also be part of the responsibilities, depending on the overall volume. The chosen individual will also have a clinical professorship at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in the Department of Psychiatry and possibly Neurology. Multiple small- and large-scale research projects are available. This position will allow for significant personal growth and program development if desired. In addition, the neuropsychologist provides supervision of practicum students, interns, medical students, and post-doctoral fellows.
The neuropsychologist serves as a key member of the interdisciplinary treatment team of physicians and other caregivers to ensure the most effective care of patients across the continuum: Inpatient, outpatient, day treatment, wellness, and transitional/assisted living settings. As an advanced practitioner with expertise in neuropsychology contributes to the rehabilitation field and to the continuous improvement of patient care through involvement in clinical support, education, research, organizational support, and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Doctoral Program from an accredited college or university.
- Eligible for ABPP-CN or ABN- Post-doctoral training consistent with Houston Guidelines Board Certified or Board Eligible
- Appropriate salary increase for board certification
- Licensed as a Psychologist or eligible for licensure to practice in the States of Georgia and South Carolina.
- Experience in the treatment and care of persons with dementia and delirium preferred
- Requires a high level of interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, gain cooperation, and exhibit effective customer service skills. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively address the needs of patients and families.
- Requires a high degree of analytical ability to manage multiple services, make decisions and allow for ingenuity, initiative, and good judgment.
- Requires computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, database, publisher, and graphics.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team of physicians and other caregivers to ensure the most effective care of patients across the continuum. Completes neuropsychological assessments in order to document functional abilities, provide detailed treatment recommendations, and help with differential diagnosis.
- Work with specialists in wound care, traumatic brain injury, rehabilitation, internal medicine, geriatrics, anesthesiology, and neurology.
- The neuropsychologist will be required to report on patients in a timely manner.
- In concert with the CMO, the neuropsychologist will help with program development across the continuum of care
- Provides supervision of practicum students, medical students, interns, and post-doctoral fellows.
- Provides consultation to assigned treatment teams during team meetings or with individual therapists.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein as may be assigned or delegated.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED:
- Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team of physicians and other caregivers to ensure the most effective care of patients across the continuum. Completes psychological intake and assessments and conducts brief psychotherapy in a primary medical setting.
- Work with specialists in general medicine, would care, traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, rehabilitation, chronic pain, internal medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, anesthesiology, and neurology, etc.
- The psychologist will be required to report on patients in a timely manner.
- Provides supervision of practicum students, medical students, interns, and post-doctoral fellows.
- Provides consultation to the assigned treatment team during team meetings.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein as may be assigned or delegated.
