Instructional Designer

Supporting the Training and Development Project Manager in the development of new training materials, conversion of existing training to online formats, and general administration of IEM’s LMS. This position will be located in our Baton Rouge, LA or Morrisville, NC office. 

Instructional Design:

  • Leverage adult learning and instructional design theories (e.g. ADDIE and/or CRI) to identify appropriate training strategies, design and develop engaging courses, and produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Apply instructional design theories during internal customer consultations to determine potential need, analyze requirements, and develop training content.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts, business unit leaders, and key stakeholders to identify and resolve training gaps.
  • Experience using authoring software (e.g. Captivate, Articulate 360, H5P, etc) to develop SCORM based training modules.
  • Develop a variety of training products for both internal and external audiences in multiple delivery formats for a geographically diverse company (e.g. eLearning, webinars, instructor-led, synchronous and asynchronous)
  • Use instructional design principles to both assist in the evaluation of content submitted for upload to the LMS and provide constructive feedback/advice to other in-house trainers.

LMS Administration:

  • LMS administration and management activities.  Experience with Moodle is preferred.
  • LMS user management, including managing permissions, creation of user groups and learning cohorts, password reset, and login access issues.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process and quality improvements for any training and development enterprise-wide.
  • Data management, including running reports and analytics.
  • Assist with individual business unit usage and learning of LMS functionality.
  • Manage content and upkeep of information within courses, including transferring existing training into the LMS.
  • Ability to lead Train-the-Trainer sessions for LMS usage and course creation.
  • Develops and maintains system support documentation (e.g. access instructions, job aids, etc.)
  • System troubleshooting and resolution, including operating a system help desk and documentation.
  • Learning activity/campaign set-up, assignment, and administration.
  • Performing activity/data audits to correct data, ensure accuracy or deactivate training assets as necessary.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required in Instructional Design, Education, Adult/Continuing Education, Business, or related field.

Relevant Experience: 

2-4 years of experience in Instructional Design, LMS Administration, Corporate Training, Education, or related field.

Critical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a course authoring software.
  • Ability to produce e-learnings at a proficient level.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet rapidly shifting deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
  • Strong customer service orientation (internal and external)
  • Strong consulting skills and/or problem solver with the ability to present issues clearly and provide answers

Additional Skills:

  • Demonstrated use of multimedia and development of computer-based training (CBT) with responsive design for mobile devices.
  • Experience using common authoring software such as Captivate, Articulate 360, H5P, or other.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design models (ADDIE, CRI)
  • Demonstrated experience with at least basic administration of a Learning Management System required.  Experience with Moodle preferred.
  • Experience creating and maintaining web-based and instructor-led courses, manuals, and other training deliverables.
  • Highly effective communicator.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, appropriately, and inclusively with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Self-directed, able to work independently and pursue personal goals.
