Helpdesk Analyst

As a Help Desk Analyst on site at the US Naval Research Laboratory, you will be part of a team of IT professionals who provide in-house technical in support of the business operations groups. You will respond to user calls/trouble reports and personally visit associates to troubleshoot the nature of the problem and take the necessary course of action to resolve it. This will provide you with the opportunity work with a variety of equipment and issues including Windows servers, desktops, laptops, network connectivity, software issues, and our state-of-the-art data center. In addition, you will also be assigned special projects in which you will get to research new technology and solve more complex problems.   We are looking for both experienced and entry level candidates.

Duties and Details

  • Installs, and upgrades Windows 10 and various user software packages.
  • Responds to end user service calls to troubleshoot the nature of reported problems and taking necessary steps to resolve those problems.
  • Configures PCs and laptops as well as loading software, and conducting audits for asset management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, and Server OS technologies.
  • Windows performance monitoring and analysis
  • Understanding of server architectures, hardware, RAID
  • Understanding of application & OS security, including virus scan management and patching
  • Analyze alerts from various monitoring tools and take appropriate actions during troubleshooting
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards, policies, and procedures
  • Research and recommend automated approaches for system administration tasks where possible.
  • Self-starter; able to manage multiple tasks efficiently for on-time delivery
  • Work ticket queues and document resolutions completely and accurately
  • Provide daily administration of workstations and servers in a fully virtualized environment.
  • Follow best practices to adhere to enterprise architecture.


  • 2 year IT degree or equivalent experience
  • Security+ Certification  
  • PowerShell scripting expertise is a plus
  • Experience with IIS web-services and SQL is a plus
    Experience with rapid deployment technologies such as PXE, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager is a plus
