Nova Individualized Learning Center is a private special education day school approved by the Exceptional Student Services Department of the Arizona Department of Education. Nova provides a separate full-day program for students (K-12) who are identified as Emotionally Disabled (ED), Emotionally Disabled-Private (EDP), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), Speech and Language Impaired (SLI), Mild Intellectual Disability (MIID), Other Health Impaired (OHI), and Cross-Categorical to include mild Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
We are searching for a skilled Counselor/therapist to help provide individual and group counseling to our students. As a team member, you will help build coping mechanisms to empower them with skills and strategies to manage stressful situations. Your duties will also include listening to students, asking necessary questions, and teaching effective strategies to improve their lives. The candidate will have the ability to communicate positively throughout the workday while working with a variety of personality types. The candidate will possess sound emotional judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to coordinate with support networks, government resources, and community resources that are also working with the students. Possess knowledge of IDEA, ESEA, and ADA rules and regulations governing students with disabilities. Possess knowledge of “Disabling Conditions” in all categories of possible service to students with disabilities. Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions. Possess the ability to write reports on progress toward goals. Ability to input data into Student Management Systems such as e-IEP Pro. The successful candidate will also be friendly and professional, with outstanding people skills.
Individual and Group Therapy sessions
Implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) and maintain data on goals in the area of emotional and behavioral health.
Assess students through detailed conversations, interviews, and observations to determine appropriate services and supports for their individual success.
Create effective treatment plans that include wrap-around supports that empower them to succeed
Regularly discuss the treatment plan with educational team members to identify areas in need of improvement.
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a professional counselor.
Superb verbal and written communication skills.
Aptitude to empathize with clients and help them open up.
Good time management skills.
Proven experience in developing effective treatment plans.

Hours are from 7:30-3:00 M-F as per district calendar
Employment will be for the 2019-2020 school year to end on May 23, 2020.
