POSITION OVERVIEW:

We’re on the search for a Technical Manager to join Gradient’s rapidly expanding Livestream team. This person should have a strong technical foundation with broadcast technology and strong interpersonal skills to aid client conversations. In this role, your responsibilities will be split between the upkeep of technology in Gradient’s broadcast control room and being actively involved in all projects as a technical manager.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Technically manage and design the technical implementation required for all Livestream events, studio video production, and hybrid events.

• As new projects come in, it will be the responsibility of this position to ensure the technical needs of all projects are being addressed and met. This position will work cross-functionally to ensure all technical deliverables and deadlines are identified and managed.

• Develop and manage all project and studio technical drawings and documentation.

• Ensure that integrated solutions are innovative and strategically relevant, building brand equity and delivering results for the client.

• Liaising with in-house Creative and Account Management Departments to reach client goals for each project, leading clear and consistent communication and coordination between team members across in-house departments, outside organizations/consultants, and clients.

• Responsible for Studio Operations including video processing systems, PTZ cameras, intercom systems, video encoders, network switches, audio consoles, and other live production-related gear.

• During Productions, this position will work with show directors to ensure proper technical implementation on-site or in the office.

• Coordinate all comms and communicate with remote locations to ensure technical quality and readiness for air.

• Assist in troubleshooting all technical issues, along with providing detailed resolutions.

• Implement and maintain process standards for deployment, and develop support documentation for operations personnel as needed

• Manage and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implement new technology for studio productions.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum five years of experience with live/online video production.

• The candidate must have a robust ability to engineer a wide range of video, audio, and lighting solutions that can be applied to support client objectives. Strong on-air operations and technical background a must.

• Ability to feel comfortable in client facing conversations where interpersonal skills need to shine.

• Has specific experience in live event video production that they can point to in interviews.

• Has a firm understanding of IT video production technologies

• Has experience wiring and working with broadcast server racks.

• Has experience, even if secondhand, as a technical Director.

• Strong project management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks without direct supervision.

• Ability to Facilitate change, serve as a change agent in the organization

• Someone who understands and is excited by experiential and emerging technology activations, such as the Metaverse, NFTs, AR, VR, and virtual greenscreen production.

• Has a broad network of production, vendor, and other contacts that would be relevant to the position.

• Ability to travel, work early mornings, late nights, and weekends when necessary as we produce projects and events across the country work overtime, and on weekends with short notice

• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

• Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submit your vaccination record no later than seven days following the commencement of employment

• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment.

SPECFIC TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Familiarity with Adobe Suite, specifically: Illustrator, Premiere, & Media Encoder.

• Expertise Dante, NDI, and other IP routing protocols.

• Deep knowledge of SDI and IP technologies including SMPTE 2110.

• Experience with digital intercom solutions, such as Unity.

• Expertise with remote video encoders and decoders (LiveU systems, Haivision systems, etc).

• MUST have experience with Newtek switchers

• Must have fluency with Mac and Windows computers and Google Suite.

• Previous experience with project management tools (like Asana).

CANDIDATE QUALITIES:

• Be dynamic and able to switch gears between multiple roles.

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.

• This person should be able to put client needs above technical limitations.

• Someone who is flexible and understands how to triage in high-stress moments vs saying “I can’t.”

• Needs to have a critical eye that always sees things through the viewer’s or audience’s viewpoint.

• A self-motivated learner who is comfortable learning on the fly when required.

• Fluent with social media video production.

COMPENSATION:

• Salary range: $85-$90K + benefits based on experience.
