Job Description

Job Summary: (One to 3 sentences describing the job)

The candidate will support the Fleet Operational Support Branch and Engineering support for Underwater Tracking Range Equipment (UTRE) for weapons, targets, and submarines; underwater vehicles; weapon training shapes; and special projects. Support is provided at the Ford Island, HI industrial complex and operational sites. The job is highly comprehensive and challenging, performed in an industrial working environment, focused on improving workflow.

Job Duties: (List core responsibilities and job duties)

  • Planning, Scheduling, & Coordination
  • Prep; Testing; Installation & Removal; Turnaround; Maintenance; Troubleshooting and Repair; Documentation; Test Equipment Maintenance and Repair; Calibration; Supply and Logistics; Range Operations And In Water Performance; Safety And Regulatory Requirements.
  • Support at sea operations, pre-event planning, and on the range event operations.
  • Support range events with logistics requirements for tools and equipment. 
  • Perform shipboard equipment installations, coordination, and technical process development and process improvements. 
  • Contribute as a member of the technical team of engineers, technicians, contractors, managers, and support personnel in the execution of technical projects. 

o   Maintenance and service electronic equipment

o   Daily housekeeping workspace/facilities

o   Occasional travel for servicing/maintenance

Mandatory Skill Requirements (must have):  

  • Knowledge/experience in electronic and/or electrical circuits
  • Willing to travel 
  • Experience with using hand/power tools
  • Able to follow strict procedures and protocols set by Fleet and industrial Operations
  • Willingness to work and learn in a team environment

Desired Skill Requirements:  

  • Five (5) years of experience in industrial and shop operations.

o   Forklift Operation up to 10K lbs capacity. (Training provided once onboard)

o   Non-Cab Category 3 Crane Operator (4000 lbs capacity). (Training provided once onboard)

  • Minimum 2-5 years in electronic/electrical experience (preferred)

Desired General Skills

 

o   Knowledge of the US Navy’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and undersea warfare (USW) underwater ranges, training vehicles and targets.  

·        Knowledge in industrial operations as it relates to shop processes, documentation, quality assurance, performance assessment, logistics, regulatory, safety, cranes, operational material and supplies (OM&S) and asset management. 

·        Awareness of ISO 9000 and quality, assurance directives, programs, processes, tracking and problem resolution as they apply to shop operations. 

·        Knowledge in troubleshooting and problem-solving methodology, approach, methods and procedures for complex systems being tested.  

·        Demonstrate ability to use computer systems and software to perform routine communications, analyze data and prepare reports.

 

Desired Technical Skills:

·        Knowledge of electronic, electro-magnetic, mechanical, computer, power, and control.

·        Ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, test, and assess complex systems using existing documentation and procedures.

·        Perform technical review of new documentation and procedures

·        Knowledge of supply and logistics processes as they apply to shop operations, material movement, quality, and warehousing.  

·        Knowledge of ISO 14000 regulatory requirements for handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, hazardous material, safety data sheets, emergency procedures and mishap reporting processes.  

·        Knowledge of electro-static discharge (ESD) and soldering of electronic components for annual training and certification.  

 

Specialty Desired Skills:

·        Knowledge of Underwater Tracking Range Equipment (UTRE) systems, operation, basic underwater acoustics, planning, coordinating, electronic testing, troubleshooting, and repair. 

·        Knowledge of MK 84 Pinger intermediate maintenance activity (IMA) and depot process, procedures, tools, and equipment.

·        Knowledge of Underwater Tracking System (UTS) process, procedures, tools and equipment as they apply to prep/programming, testing, installing and removing, turnaround, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation.

·        Knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform electronic system fabrication and testing.   

·        Knowledge of operational material and supplies (OM&S), calibration, hazardous material processes and general shop safety.  

·        Knowledge of CAT-3 non-cab crane operations and safety.

 

Education/Equivalent:  Desired Associates degree or Electronics trade school.
