Company Description
Holm Industries, Inc. was established in 1978 by Andrew Holm and three partners. Mr. Holm was an entrepreneur from Scottsburg, Indiana, who had a desire to produce custom plastic extrusions for the appliance and construction industries. Holm’s first customer was Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois.

Thompson Properties of Cincinnati, Ohio purchased Holm in 1982 and a new period of growth began. In 1984, the company expanded by building an additional 83,000 square feet of warehouse and office space. Another 51,800 square feet of manufacturing space was added in 1987. Its customer list grew to include General Electric, White Consolidated Industries (now known as Electrolux Home Products), Maytag, Amana, Sub-Zero, Stanley Door, Pease Door, Taylor Door, and Caradco Industries.

In 1989, The Standard Products Company purchased Holm and created Holm Industries, Inc., a subsidiary. The following year, Holm purchased Pantasote, Inc.’s Plastic/Magnetic Division, which included the following manufacturing locations: New Ulm, Minnesota; Hartselle, Alabama; San Diego, California; and Seymour, Indiana. With this merger, Holm became the largest manufacturer of appliance gaskets in the United States of America.

Holm then purchased Jarrow Products, commercial refrigeration, and freezer gasket maker, in 1992. Jarrow’s facilities were located in Chicago and in St. Charles, Illinois. At about the same time, a facility was constructed in Scottsburg to house Holm’s Research and Development Center.

In 1994, Holm entered into a joint venture in three facilities in Mexico to manufacture gaskets for the appliance industry in Latin America. Mag Flex and Pepsa were located in Queretaro and P.G.H. in Monterrey. Mag Flex manufactures a magnetic strip which was sold to Holm’s other joint venture partners. Pepsa and P.G.H. manufacture refrigerator gaskets for GE’s Mexican affiliate, Mabe, and also for Whirlpool.

In 1996, a 61,000 square foot finished goods warehouse was built on Main Street in Scottsburg, and in 1998 a 41,000 square foot state-of-the-art blending facility was added to the warehouse.

The San Diego operation was moved to Tijuana, Mexico as a Maquiladora facility in 1997. Holm’s production area was located inside the facility of Sanyo, its largest customer.

Holm acquired OEM/Miller in August 1998. OEM/Miller’s facility is located in Aurora, Ohio, and manufactures corrugated flexible plastic tubing for the appliance and automotive industry. OEM/Miller is the market leader in drainage tubing for washing machines. Its customers include Whirlpool, General Electric, and Solvay, a supplier of automotive tubing.

In 1999, Standard Products was acquired by Cooper Tire and was renamed, Cooper Standard.
