If you are ready to change the world and protect the protectors, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) currently has an IMMEDIATE opportunity for a Deputy Director Of Organizing and Field Services to work in the IAFF Organizing and Field Services Department.

This is a exempt, full-time position (37.5-hour work week) with office assignment at the Headquarters of the International Association of Fire Fighters in Washington D.C. Position Summary:

Lead and implement organizing efforts intended to grow the number of IAFF members, build stronger relationships with alumni, retain current members, and re-engage former members that are still eligible for membership. Responsible for overseeing the personnel and day-to-day work activities of the Organizing and Field Services Department. Oversees the planning, development, execution and delivery of programs and services for organizing, field services, and alumni.


• Develop and implement organizing plans to engage and organize industrial, 501(c)(3), and wildland firefighters
• Work with IAFF leadership to:

o Identify local and regional needs

o Write organizing plans and develop goals

o Track and evaluate progress towards those goals

o Monitor organizing costs and provide recommendations to improve service
• Develop and implement strategies to counter anti-union campaigns
• Create and maintain materials and resources to support organizing efforts directed by IAFF leadership

Data Tracking:
• Collaborate with the IAFF database administrator to develop and maintain information and data related to organizing, field services, and the alumni programs.
• Collect, analyze, and store feedback from IAFF members to evaluate program and project success.
• Analyze organizing data to determine future organizing targets.
• Research organizing targets to construct lists of firefighters and EMS providers with contact information and union interest levels.

Alumni Program:
• Manage alumni program membership.
• Collaborate with IAFF Financial Core to identify and support alumni members' needs.

• Develop annual trainings for the IAFF's Affiliate Leadership Training (ALTS) Conference.
• Develop and conduct classes and workshops as needed for IAFF educational events.

Other Responsibilities:
• Identify opportunities to engage the executive branch in support of worker organizing.
• Coordinate with other IAFF departments and divisions to update and maintain the website and other communications materials related to organizing, the alumni program, and membership retention.
• Work with the division's executive assistant to monitor leadership engagement.
• Manage department budget and contracts.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously including planning, organizing, development, and deployment
• Ability to delegate tasks efficiently
• Knowledge of labor laws for both public and private sectors
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite


• Minimum of 5 -7 years in organizing public and/or private sector workers.
