To help each pupil develop competence in subject area skills and an understanding of subject material. To provide structured classroom management, planned instruction and thorough assessments which reflect each student’s learning. To work with parents, other staff members and students improve the subject area knowledge and skills of the student. To improve teaching as assigned by the principal, mentors and staff training personnel.
- B.A. or B.S. degree required with a degree in education at the elementary level. M.A. degree preferred.
- Meet the Highly Qualified Classification as defined by NCLB.
- Must have Arizona K-12 Teacher Certification.
4. Structured English Immersion Endorsement preferred.

6. Five or more years’ experience working in a classroom setting.

16. Knowledge and experience of the principles and practices for lesson plan development specific to special needs.
17. Knowledge and experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and counselors.
18. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
19. Knowledge and experience providing differentiated instruction, particularly with Navajo students.
20. Willing to provide after school.
- Specialized training in working with at-risk students. Ability to work with Navajo students in a bilingual and bicultural setting.

- Must maintain a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Fluency in Navajo is highly recommended.
- Previous experience with Native Start is preferred.
- Must have or be able to obtain first aid/CPR certification, Defensive Driving- GSA certification, and a Navajo Nation Food Handlers Permit.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. At all times in the presence of students and staff and their families, exhibit the conduct, demeanor speech, and attitudes that exemplify the values and behavior expected of staff at Hunter’s Point Boarding School, Inc. and serve as an appropriate adult role model for students
2. Exhibit, at all times while employed by Hunter’s Point Boarding School, Inc., sensitivity and respect for the Navajo people, their culture and traditions.
3. Comply with all provisions of the Personnel Policy Manual and with all provisions of all other duly adopted Governing Board policies, procedures, directives and manuals.
4. At all times act so as to promote and protect the safety and welfare of all Hunter’s Point Boarding School, Inc. students, staff and Governing Board.
5. Keep immediate supervisor informed, regularly and as needed, of all significant problems, progress and activities of all offices, departments, programs and personnel under employee’s supervision.
6. Attend staff and other meetings as assigned, promptly as scheduled and participate actively and positively in all such meetings and activities.
7. Ensure equipment and facilities are kept clean, well maintained, and safe at all times; report any equipment failures or deficiencies immediately to supervisor and use all property for school business only.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Establish learning objectives, which include the current district guidelines and objectives that is founded in Dine’ principles of learning.
2. Must understand the Navajo education philosophy, as applied to the seasonal Traditional teachings; i.e. Winter stories, fall, winter, spring activities, etc.
3. Determine appropriate program of study to meet specific need s of all students.
4. Provide instruction based on established objectives and individual student needs. Instruction will include appropriate modeling, active student involvement, guided and independent practice, evaluation, monitoring and adjusting of instruction, and closure.
5. Motivate students to maximize their learning potential so all students have successful experiences.
6. Maintain high expectations for self and all students.
7. Maintain positive effective classroom management procedures, which are in compliance with school and district guidelines.
8. Monitor halls, bus unloading and loading, cafeteria, and surrounding school areas that require supervision before, between and after school as your schedule at the school is defined.
9. Maintain appropriate student records and documentation (REPs, grades, mandated reports, etc.)
10. Continue to grow professionally through appropriate staff development opportunities and obtain a minimum of 15 clock hours of staff development each year.
11. Adhere to all board policies and /or rules, federal and state regulations as it pertains to education.
12. Demonstrate knowledge of subject(s) taught, integrating the Dine' concepts as outlined in curriculum.
13. Be familiar with current literature relating to subject being taught.
14. Be familiar with and be able to implement curriculum mapping and course syllabus for each content area; according to the Navajo Theme Based concepts, the State Common Core Standards, and the Navajo Nation Dine Education Standards.
15. Must be able to assist in school function and Dine ' studies activities and presentations, conferences.
16. Be familiar with course syllabus for each content area.
17. Be familiar with strategies for developing curriculum, especially curriculum construction related to Curriculum Mapping.
18. Be responsible for own involvement as a contributing member involving group decisions and the development of a positive, cooperative building environment
19. Be responsible for following accountability procedures; know and observe Governing Board policies and procedures;
20. Accounts for school and school property, as required;
21. Advises administration management immediately of needed repairs, replacements and unsafe building conditions;
22. Reports to work daily at times assigned and remains through time prescribed in accordance with HPBS policy;
23. In the event of absence, reports to immediate supervisor within the specific time to ensure coverage of classroom;
24. Remains in school after dismissal of students, as necessary to complete daily duties, attend teacher and committee meetings and hold parent conferences;
25. Become familiar and implements HPBS Emergency Response Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan (CoOP);
26. Provides Quality Customer Service.
