Job Description

This position is responsible for the planning, design, acquisition, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of LAN and WAN, electronic mail, telecommunications, video systems, and server-based systems and related software. Typical day-to-day functions include working with the network team to interconnect multiple systems, both on-premise and cloud, assess vendor products, evaluate hardware and software, improve security and procedures, troubleshoots problems, maintain network security and document policies and procedures.

Senior Systems Admin Responsibilities:

  • Manages and Troubleshoots the Installation, uptime, usage and performance of all data, voice and video network communications systems.
  • Understands and maintains a “Security First” approach for all system operations and deployments.
  • Understands, operates and maintains on an expert level our CommVault backup system.
  • Opens, manages and escalates support tickets with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during times of network outages or periods of reduced performance.
  • Participates in and may lead aspects of major network installations and upgrades.
  • Provides Expert level consultation/recommendations to IT department and organizational leadership on escalated issues.
  • Works well with peers, junior technical staff and Technology Vendors with R&D, strategic and tactical planning, design, development and deployment.
  • Conducts detailed analysis, defining standards and documenting technology requirements for infrastructure design, planning, funding, implementation and end user interaction.
  • Investigates various technologies, engages with key Vendors and partners to negotiate solutions and options for appropriate product pricing.
  • Lead team members on optimization of the computer Systems through better security and hardened deployment methods.
  • Oversees/Tests/implements responsible server systems and application patch releases/upgrades and hardware refresh cycles.
  • Accepts assignments, coordinates and install new applications, servers and/or products, as required.
  • Provides integration services across varying technology platforms conducting appropriate research, testing and development of associated project related integration requirements.
  • Performs expert level diagnostic assessment fixing defects and providing resolution of system related maladies.
  • Produces procedural documentation for Operational and Disaster Recovery functions.
  • Rotates periodically with help desk or On Call support team.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee and legal information.
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in areas as appropriate: Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Security procedures.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures,
  • Understands database concepts as they apply to Exchange and SQL, including backup and restore and familiarity with data queries.

Senior System Admin Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer related field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of how key network systems link together, i.e. VMWare, Compute and Storage
  • Commvault
  • Cisco CUCM, WebEx, Unity, Telepresence, Jabber
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • VMWare (ESX & vCenter)
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Windows Server (all versions)
  • PowerShell
  • SolarWinds
  • SSL Certificate Management
