Job Title: Sous Chef

Job Classification: Exempt

Status: Full time

Supervisor: Executive Chef

Qualifications: 1-2 years demonstrated ability to supervise, train and lead a team, and execute orders from the Executive Chef. Has an accredited food safety certification and advanced cooking skills. Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures. Working knowledge of industry software programs. Ability to relate well to staff, vendors and clients of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, and religions.

  1. Preferred Education/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Maintain Serve Safe certification
  2. Understanding of HACCP and sanitation
  3. Culinary training program graduate
  4. Ability to work independently with broad guidance and carry out necessary kitchen duties
  5. Ability to manage the kitchen, deliveries, and inventory control of all products
  6. Working knowledge of current office equipment and computer programs, including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Word
  7. Familiarity with state and local food health and safety requirements
  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Help in creation of food menus
  2. Prepare hot and cold food and baked goods
  3. Produce high quality plates both design and taste wise
  4. Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards
  5. Fill in for the Executive Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary
  6. Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situations
  7. Work in tandem with the Executive Chef on managing, hiring, and training kitchen staff, establishing working schedules and regularly assessing performance
  8. Daily inventory and product ordering
  9. Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards
  10. Lead on site catering teams and provide leadership on off site preparation/ service
  11. Maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and customers
  1. Personnel Management

  1. Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff
  2. Assess ongoing training needs within kitchen and provide/ arrange as needed
  3. Review/ approve staff time-sheets/ leave requests/ other personnel forms
  4. Review and monitor staff performance
  5. Promote kitchen staff development and team cohesion

D. Agency/Team Cohesion

  1. Maintain communication with other department staff regarding staff’s and clients’ needs
  2. Participate in departmental team meetings.
  3. To maintain continuity, 30 days’ notice must be given upon resignation

E. Other duties as assigned
