Clinical Lab Asst/Certified Phlebotomist

Duties:The laboratory assistant III is responsible for collecting blood and urine specimens from pediatric patients and for the timely initial processing of specimens for laboratory testing and microbiology set-up.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Draws blood from pediatric patients by venipuncture, observing strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis to prevent infection of patient and contamination of specimens. Make sure to use the two patient’s identifiers, wash hands and change gloves in between patients. 2. Receives blood and other body fluid specimens sent to laboratory, orders tests in computer in a timely manner. 3. Centrifuges blood specimens in test tubes and capillary tubes to separate cells and sediment from blood serum. Processes samples according to standard protocol. 4. Understands, supports, promotes and adheres to the customer service philosophy and standards 5. Processes specimens for microbiology set up as required. 6. Answers telephone and provides information in accordance with laboratory policy. 7. Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection safety control standards. 8. Performs other duties as assigned
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: 1. Orders supplies as required. 2. Assists in orientation of new staff members as required.
Skills: Moderate knowledge of medical terminology. - Required Must be capable of performing precise repetitive and consistent manipulations with patient samples. - Required Phlebotomy Certificate - Required Phlebotomy experience. - Highly desired: 1 Years
