Raskob Learning Institute and Day School, a division of, and located at Holy Names University, is seeking to fill the position of Special Education Teaching Associate.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION****:**
* Assist PE teacher in providing instruction in PE to elementary and middle school students with learning disabilities in a private, nonpublic school setting. Provide guidance and assistance to students in following the school routine and in structured academic and less structured social activities. * Actively engages in play and athletic activities for daily PE classes. * Attend meetings as requested, such as IEP meetings, parent conferences, Student Study Team meetings, etc. * Assist in the implementation of behavioral plans as needed for students. * Assist teachers in preparing and grading materials and assignments, providing photocopying and other clerical support as needed. * Assist in delivering instruction to students, using multisensory techniques, motivational strategies, and prompts to stay on task. Assist in the use of a variety of classroom organization strategies ranging from one-on-one instruction, small group instruction, and whole class instruction. * Use classroom management strategies that encourage a quiet, orderly classroom atmosphere. * Work cooperatively with a supervising teacher by following direction, communicating effectively and taking advantage of opportunities to develop professionally. * Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors in faculty meetings, departmental meetings, and other communication forums. * Actively engage in the enhancement of own skills and learning through attending professional development workshops, conferences, pursuing professional reading, etc. * Communicate with parents, professionals, and the public as requested, acting as an effective representative of Raskob Learning Institute. * Participate in maintaining an interesting and positive classroom environment through displaying student work, educational materials, and decorations. * Participate in the planning and implementing of special events, such as graduation, fieldtrips, holiday performances, cultural presentations, school assemblies. * Handle unexpected or emergency situations calmly and professionally. * Supervise students during lunch and recess, actively engaging in play and athletic activities, handling discipline problems effectively (including communicating with colleagues about incidences), guiding and monitoring the development of positive social skills in students. * Supervise students effectively during lunch study, homework study, and after school activities, providing academic assistance, communicating with colleagues, setting limits and creating an atmosphere conducive to learning and recreation, as appropriate. * Supervise students effectively during transitions before and after school and between classes. * Complete required paper work professionally and meet deadlines.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:**
* Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences or related field preferred. * Progress towards an advanced degree or teaching credential desirable. * Minimum of one to two years' experience, preferably in a classroom setting, with students with learning differences. * Must enjoy working with children in a highly challenging and collaborative environment. * Strong command of the English language as demonstrated in oral and written communication, as well as with written text. * Demonstrates cultural competency.
