Position: Individual Giving Manager – Full Time

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Holy Family Ministries is a not-for-profit organization, providing educational opportunities for children in Chicago’s under-resourced neighborhoods to excel academically, grow spiritually, expand life experiences, and become exceptional leaders through a faith-based approach. Programs operate from the Holy Family Ministries Center in the North Lawndale neighborhood and the Development/Administrative office is located in Northbrook, IL where this position will work.

JOB OVERVIEW

Holy Family Ministries is expanding our Development Team and we are seeking an experienced and energetic team member with a passion for our mission and with demonstrated success in securing support for the Annual Fund. The ideal candidate will have a background in philanthropy and fundraising along with a deep knowledge of cultivation and stewardship best practices.

This is a new position in the organization and a great opportunity for a seasoned fundraiser to support the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Development Officer in ongoing efforts to advance the mission of Holy Family Ministries by increasing participation and broadening the base of support for major gifts and annual giving. The Development Team is responsible for raising $3.5 million in Contributed Income annually (total agency budget of $5.5 million).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

This new team member will become familiar with the operations of the entire Development Department, but will ultimately focus most of his/her time on the following functions:

FUND DEVELOPMENT- INDIVIDUAL GIFTS (55% of time)

  • Creates an annual master moves management plan for a major gifts program
  • Ensures that the CEO and CDO receives the information and support needed to cultivate and steward a pipeline of major donors
  • Conducts and manages the process to schedule donor visits and phone calls with current donors and prospects for CEO and CDO
  • Prepares regular reports (gift income, pledge, campaign, prospect, financial, etc.) and project-specific reports for leadership and board committees
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of donors in the $1,000 to $5,000 range
  • Together with the CEO, CDO and Development Director, expands individual donor engagement through a variety of stewardship events
  • Manages and expands the Church Partner Program
  • Works collaboratively with the Development Director and the Development & Project Manager (Grants) to ensure that messaging is consistent for all constituents

FUND DEVELOPMENT – MAJOR EVENTS (15% of time)

  • Serves alongside the Development Director to work strategically with the Benefit Chairs of the two organizational events (Spring & Fall) to ensure they receive support needed to maximize outreach to donors and prospects
  • Briefs CEO, CDO and Board on key donors and prospects attending annual gala events
  • Together with the Development Director, ensures that the Events Manager has the resources necessary to create successful in-person events, and works closely with the Manager in the weeks prior to and day-of the events (events are currently virtual)

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (15% of time)

  • Provides input for annual Development & Communications Plan
  • ­Together with the CEO and CDO, provides content for donor engagement material including newsletters, appeals, brochures, annual reports, mailings, press releases, and special stewardship outreach to recognize and thank donors

ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGERIAL (15% of time)

  • Part of a team that develops the strategic plan for HFM’s Development Office, including fundraising, advocacy, and communications goals
  • In tandem with the CDO and Development Director implements the most recent organization strategic plan to meet the current contributed income goals for the Annual Fund
  • Gradually assumes responsibilities from the CDO for operational planning within the department relative to the Individual Giving Program and Church Partners
  • Works alongside the CDO and serves as a staff liaison to the Development and Communications Committee and the Board Development Committee
  • Helps establish performance measures, monitors results, and provides outcomes to the CEO, Development and Communications Committee and Board to assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development activities

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
  • CFRE credential or working toward a CFRE a strong plus
  • 3 or more years prior Development experience in a not-for-profit organization working with individual donors and supporting a major gifts program
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with managing and conducting in-depth research on prospects using fundraising and wealth screening databases
  • Strong judgment skills with the ability to adapt and respond to change
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information
  • Enthusiastic, loyal, self-motivated and committed to excellence and to a team approach
  • Available to travel locally as required for meetings, as well as attend evening or weekend events and activities on occasion
