Job Description

*Responsible for ensuring HCH and associated facilities are maintained in a safe, efficient, orderly, and otherwise proper operating condition.

*Responsible for the direct supervision of technical Facilities staff responsible for maintaining the facilities.

*Formulates and approves short and long-term goals, objectives, plans and budgets for all Facilities and Engineering functions and activities. In so doing, works with managers to develop fiscal year goals, objectives and budgets. Upon approval, oversees implementation of and monitors adherence to same, initiating corrective action as necessary.

*Ensures associated facilities are in compliance with all requirements (federal, state and local safety, Environment of Care (EOC) , pollution control and environmental protection legislation and compliance requirements) and safety and quality improvement plans. , Ensures timely and proper related reports as required by authorities having jurisdiction, and prepared by subordinate supervisors and managers.

*Provides leadership in customer service initiatives for the department across HCH.

*Negotiates with vendors and awards large equipment maintenance contracts, large supply orders, major equipment purchases and the like.

*Reviews requests for and approves purchases of Facilities and Engineering's major operational items.

*Oversees preparation of various records and reports and regularly evaluates progress toward HCH goals and objectives.

*Represents HCH to outside authorities having jurisdiction or accreditation agencies on Facilities and Engineering/EOC and compliance matters.

*Serves as a consultant to other management personnel on specific Facilities and Engineering problems and concerns.


Required Education, Experience and Licensure

*Knowledge of engineering practices and principles in healthcare settings, strong background in healthcare settings, institutional maintenance principles, biomedical engineering management practices, design and construction principles, basic accounting and budgeting at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, with a concentration in Business Administration. Equivalency in industry leadership is considered in lieu of formal degreed individual (10 years in leadership minimum).

*Approximately ten years progressively more responsible leadership experience leadership in health care facilities and capital project fields, thorough knowledge of applicable codes and regulations of accrediting and governmental bodies.

*Interpersonal skills necessary in order to negotiate major operational equipment contracts; represent HCH to public and interact effectively with influential HCH and external personnel including contractors, regulatory agency personnel, legislators and the like.

*Interpersonal skills to report in a matrix environment throughout HCH and Trinity Health.

*Analytical skills necessary in order to recommend effective divisional policies and procedures, find solutions to complex technical engineering problems, conduct cost/benefit analyses and ensure coordination of Facilities and Engineering and Health System goals and objectives.
