Job Description

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN PLEASANT GROVE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer technical requests and inquiries to resolve product problems through diagnosis, knowledge and expertise, research, manufacturing contacts and engineering data.
  • Recognize, document and report product issues and assist in determining root causes that significantly affect customer satisfaction, productivity and/or operations.
  • Work with sales and product support to resolve technical and application issues related to machine modifications, work tools and other attachments.
  • Coordinate completion of all Caterpillar machine updates, as described in service letters.
  • Research and gather data for investigation of product problems. Failure Analysis
  • Support company service technicians, parts counter associates, Product Support Sales Representatives and Machine Sales Representatives’ in answering technical inquires and requests to trouble shoot systems and determine root cause.
  • Perform technical inspections on equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between Holt of California and manufacturers in investigating, reporting, and resolving product problems.
  • Develop, set standards, implement, and maintain quality control systems for Earthmoving division.
  • Participate in the product problem resolution process by identifying major product issues that significantly impact the company and our customers, documenting, summarizing, and prioritizing these product problems to the factory and tracking product problems though to final resolution.
  • Coordinate, perform and report on test iron projects, failure analysis, reusability guidelines and parts salvage and development.
  • Provide written service and repair information from manufacturer, research technical service information when unavailable to service technicians from existing resources.
  • Assess and provide input to service management on service equipment, tooling, procedural, and technician training needs.
  • Assist with training department with training of service personnel as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with electrical, hydraulic and GPS diagnostics.

  • TECHNICAL TRAINING

    Product specific hydraulics, electronics, power transmission, pneumatics, engines, air conditioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and failure analysis application.
  • General technical areas of applied physics, mechanical drawing, metal component fabrication and structural design, and machining processes.
  • Proficient computer technology skills, including ability to utilize company authorized software.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma, GED or trade school equivalent, some college preferred.  Minimum of five years of heavy equipment technician experience or equivalent experience and demonstrated knowledge and/or

Five years Caterpillar related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must have a valid California driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Self-motivated and detail oriented; work with minimum supervision.
  • Stand/walk 1-4 hours a day, and/or site 5-6 hours a day.
  • Occasionally/frequently lift 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.

  • Office/inside environment.
  • Frequent exposure to shop/warehouse/outside environment.
  • Field environment with exposure to adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, dirt and noise.

COMPENSATION

 Monthly base salary plus commissions. Business expenses and company mileage plan included.
